Id love a new BOTS studio!

We must remember that there were never many major changes to the outside during the C4 incarnation, they always had some form of walkway, stairs and cars the housemates got out of. Theres been as much change re. the stairs out of the eye, inside the eye set (which IMO was lush for BB:POWER TRIP) and carpet and eye floor on the round podium! I would like to see the eye at the top of the stairs gone/ changed and perhaps the stairs changed.

But whats the point in changing something thats already pretty good- which they will more than likely not make any better!!
But I think that's where daniel lewis is right. When it was on C4, it had variation. Even the smallest changes can make it seem different.

I just hope they get rid of the turning eye at the top of the stairs. One gimmick that I can't stand.

New stairs into the house would be nice, that could be done.

There's been no mention of any change to the main show/set

I just think taking away that revolving eye and putting in harsh black stairs with barbed wire like back in the day would have so much more impact.

No need for pyrotechnics.

They could take the roof off the eye and remove the eye and have the indoor set open which could be used for housemates to enter by car, and they first start walking down the cat walk where the old indoor studio was. And then have a interview room elsewhere.

I personally find that the current studio is better than one away from the house. I agree the eye's an awful gimmick! However I prefer it to the car entrances! The theatrical nature makes it more interesting!

As much as BOTS is still one of my favourite ever spin-off shows, it became a lot less funny after they dropped most of the innuendo and crude jokes a couple of series ago when they were trying to make it 'upmarket' (their word, not mine). I'm hoping this doesn't mean more of the same. The entire appeal of the show is that it's trashy, embarrassing and rude and has items that no other spin-off show would, I hope they don't change that.

I didn't mean the eye they walk out of. I meant the eye shape at the house entrance which pointlessly spins to allow them to enter.

I hate all that. Its so cringey.

I want something like Question Time, but with ex-housemates instead of George Galloway.

Well, you know what I mean :P

That's the point though, it's supposed to be. It's funny because it's so classless and doesn't take itself seriously.

That's what a spin-off programme to a light entertainment gameshow should be, we have Question Time for real life issues and I enjoy that for what it is, but I want to laugh at a sideshow to a programme about people living in a TV studio.

I'm sure they can find the middle ground between Question Time and a masturbating dog.

Just... not yet...

To an extent, yeah BOTS was still finding its feet in those days though and it's weird to think back to it now, like I remember the first few shows when they had those wooden audience members with screens as their heads so that viewers could Skype in

It was at its peak during BB13 IMO, where they'd open with three clips from the house that were effectively double entendres, the welcome back links were crude, the script was scattered full of innuendo and they had ridiculous VTs for no reason at all (granted they still do that occasionally, but they aren't nearly as funny as they used to be). Oh, and Pete Burns was a weekly regular who'd slaughter everyone. I remembered when he called the spunking dog a *unt and no one cared <3 and when they showed him that message from Jodie Marsh for no reason and he said he'd like to rip her neck off and **** in the stump things like that wouldn't happen anymore

The appeal of Bit On The Side is, or was, that it's brash, crude and in your face. A late night spin-off show where pretty much anything goes. Not a serious talk show about one of the trashiest reality programmes there is.

agree with all of this, although still enjoyed it throughout BB15. i hope they aren't trying to make it "classy". it doesn't work. it takes two is dreadful and the xtra factor is boring because it's PG.

I've missed your essays

See, bizarrely I feel exactly the opposite which I think is because BOTS to me needs to be a show that takes the main show seriously, like a compliment to it - as the name suggests, on the side as opposed to bit on the side if that makes sense
This is why I don't watch get me out of here now (that and the fact that joe Swash is a tool)

I agree with you. I mean, if BOTS doesn't take Big Brother seriously, why should anyone else?

Anyway, funny doesn't have to be crude. Funny can be smart and intelligent too. But BOTS 9/10 times goes a stupid cheap gag, because well, its easier.

I like to think of Big Brother still being a social experiment, therefore I'd like some intelligent discussion of the goings on in the house and the housemates, not sex jokes (not that I don't mind a sex joke :P)

PS, does anyone have a link to a video of that jizzing dog for nostalgia reasons?

Xtra was at its best with Olly and Caroline and to be honest it was precisely for the same reason. Running jokes, innuendo, items like the 'breaking news' etc.

Spin-off shows are best when they don't take themselves seriously and are irreverent and stupid. That's the point of them.

I've not posted regularly here for a while guess I'll be back for CBB

Different strokes I guess, but I just don't think people should take a show like Big Brother seriously. I mean granted we all do (hell including myself) when it's on, but we should step back and look at how trashy it is and embrace it. I don't think trashy is necessarily a bad thing, on the main show sure I'd like it to be presented a bit more seriously and less tackily (I think there's a difference between trashy and tacky), but spin-off shows that air at like 11pm? Nah, I want innuendo and crude jokes, TV that pushes boundaries of the broadcasting code

I mean even in the old days the spin-offs weren't that upmarket, certainly not Big Mouth with Russell anyway.

That's the difference though, Russell Brand is intelligent enough to both make a dirty joke and a good, intelligent, point. The current BOTS presenters don't have those attributes (not saying they're stupid or anything haha)

Yeah true -if you can't be crude at 11pm when can you be?

Mind you, I never liked Big Mouth.

Funny can be smart and intelligent, yes, and I don't want anyone here to think my only sense of humour revolves around penis jokes because it's far more varied than that, but there's a time and a place for intellectual, witty and observational humour and it's not on a reality TV spin-off show.

I'd still quite like a serious psychology show like we used to have in Big Brain and On The Couch where we wouldn't need jokes and I hoped On The Psych might go down that path but alas it wasn't to be. But the actual late night talk show with celebrity guests etc...nah, it needs to be trashy and rude.

Similarly, I like crude, innuendo ridden filth too; I just don't think the current Big Brother presenters and production team can pull it off. Id like BOTS to be sensible. But honestly, even when they do go down the filth route, they just can't do it.

If you're going to do that, you have to be unashamed; they apologise everytime someone says "****," and Emma blushes and goes all giggly at the slighest utterance of a profanity. You either have to go all or nothing.

What I would like to see is a new set, new opening titles (like Big Mouth or Little Brother), and some change up in the order the show progresses. It's become way to predictable and boring.
