Noob question alert (even though I've been here since 2010): Where did this posting smaller pictures trend start? I feel like I'm missing a "thing" here.

it used to be a thing in 2008/2009 but it just stopped and has only resurfaced in the last year

There just used as reactions sometimes, called emotes

Like if someone said said something sad I would post the Nikki crying emotr, or if someone posted something shocked an emot of Kris being shocked
