Default VAT is THE biggest issue in a generation

milibland has already disgraced himself and scored another mindless own goal by saying he wont raise it, when he should in fact be promising to drop it

The champagne socialist then goes on to demand Cameron promise he wont raise it, so Cameron does. what a prat you are milibland.
you've not only shown yourself to be a fake socialist who will NOT fight to reduce this disgusting sub human utterly disgraceful enslavement tax on the working masses

VAT was a revolting tax brought in allegedly to tax luxury items for rich people....now its on virtually everything for poor people......whilst the rich claim it all back through some pretend business or other
average joe probably pays £2000 a year on his utility bills alone.....throw in fuel and your likely to add another £1000 then food shopping drinks meals out movies holidays tyres etc etc

Its an enslavement tax, it cannot be justified in any way....NOTHING does more to keep the poor poor to keep small businesses small and to allow the rich to avoid it all by claiming it all back. most small businesses cannot grow simply because of vat. it always makes them les profitable and adds 100s of hours of more admin work too

The irony of it all is the party of small business the tories ha ha ha doubled vat under psycho Maggie thatcher milk snatcher and yet again they put it up 5% the moment they got into office

Do me a favour forget everything else these 2 privately educated elitist fakes say this election , don't decide on who is the lesser of the two evils , theyre both dreadful. Try and find someone else somewhere who is actually fighting on these massively important matters. \if you cant find such a person or party then why waste your fuel plus 20% vat to vote for scumbags you don't believe in

They will... they lied in the 70's said it wouldn't rise and it doubled from 8% to 15%... Norman Lamont did something even more evil and put VAT on fuel, and Cameron raised VAT again from to 20% in 2010.

... and extended it to hot food such as cooked chickens etc in supermarkets, it would have been on pasties and other things at the likes of Greggs if there hadn't been an outcry as to that.

VAT will never be scrapped in the UK,it is the easiest tax to raise and one of the quickest ways to gather more funding to the treasury.
Labour however have avoided in the main increasing Vat, it is as you say, Conservative govts; that always increase it and extend it to things that have been exempt from it before too.

I think that is their plan again this time too.

Andrew Neil made the point today that increase VAT over 20% and you'll likely end up having less money coming in because it would swell the black market as has happened recently in France. It was incredibly easy for the Tories to set this trap and to confidently rule out any increase because it would not make economic sense

Oh yes donations from ginsters and greggs put paid to 'pasty tax'

He's tricky....osborne said 'we have no plans to raise VAT' and the PM said yes to confirming they wouldn't raise it.

Neither said anything about adding anything to the list of VAT items.

Not sure if the constant rises in tobacco/ciggies is because of vat or just greed, but they are doing wonders for black market sellers. Our backy man has been selling out of everything for the past year or so regularly despite increasing his stock, which is unusual. £7.50 for 50g imported drum compared to about £17.50ish in the shops... The more you rip people, the more they find other ways to do things is the moral of the story.
