As ever it is the rules that need to be changed, until they are this will go on and on but since it is under the rules no MP should be condemned for it.
No matter what party they represent.

There was me thinking they had changed the rules when th expenses scandal came out.
If not illegal, it is definitely immoral

Off topic...I thought he looked very gaunt and ill on QT last night.

I agree, although I honestly don't think a lot of MPs 'from all parties', even know what being moral is unfortunately.
Until things are changed and really tightened up on with everything having to be approved 'beforehand', not after it is set up.
Sadly this will go on, with MPs from all parties.

One of the most pathetic excuses I heard for claiming expenses came from David Laws, the Lib Dem MP, who was sidelined for a time until the dust settled and then brought back into cabinet again by Nick Clegg and David Cameron, getting well rewarded for being devious.

I share the disappointment and disillusionment as to MPs doing things like this but as the op says, it is not against the rules.
So in effect, until it is,they can do it and will go on doing it too.
This is just one of a good few known now and also likely one of an even greater number not known.

I agree with you and share your frustration at this going on.
However as you said in your opening post, it is permitted under the rules so he's doing nothing 'legally' or even in a parliamentarysense wrong.
I am not defending it but that is a fact,if it's permitted,he and the others can do it until it is not something permitted and maybe gets regulated more closely.

if the left wing c4, made ukip first 100 days, then they can make labour first 100 days, but they won't, because they are the party that can;t be slammed, even if they do the same wrong things like any other party out there

He was a poor choice I agree to lead Labour in Scotland although he does carry a lot of respect from Scots voters.
I just think the Scots for the foreseeable future are behind the SNP now, they have done well running the Scottish government, they were hoodwinked by the 3 main westminster parties as to the independence referendum, which has angered many Scots voters.

Labour will just have to take losses on the chin this time anyway, although I do think they will hold many more seats than is expected at present.
If I lived in Scotland, I would be supporting the SNP, I just about like all their policies.

I doubt however that this revelation as to Jim Murphy, since it is deemed he is not doing anything that is not allowed, will not alter whatever was going to happen in May.

He should be prosecuted. I don't believe what he did is not against the rules and I want to see them throw the book at him and everyone public servant, from whichever party they represent, prosecuted and punished.

Sadly, I tend to agree. When the expenses scandal was dragged out into the light, IPSA - the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority rewrote the rules on reporting and claiming expenses. It has meant lots of extra work for MP's staff, it's really quite fiddley and detailed and covers a multitude of ways that staff might fraudulently claim. For instance, an MP's office may claim for refreshments - tea, coffee etc. But they may not drink it themselves. So you can buy a pint of milk on Friday, make one cup of coffee for a visitor then if it's not drunk by close of play on Friday you have to throw it out. It's a ridiculous system. However, the same kind of crackdown hasn't been extended to MPs, a few of whom are still hogging the trough.

If I believed for a second it only went on in one party then it would be an issue ... But it doesn't.

'Our investigation raises questions about whether the new Ipsa expenses system allows taxpayers' money to be used appropriately, and whether MPs can still gain. The list of 46 MPs include 25 Conservatives, 14 Labour, and four from the Liberal Democrats.'

I don't need to be coaxed into threads, when I want to comment I will.
I know you're not Arista, but calling people out like this can smack of baiting at times.

It does happen in all parties, but it's only an issue to some when it's UKIP or a Tory. It's obvious. So commenting that someone on the left, who's so very vociferous when an issue like this involves someone on the right, is fair comment, not baiting at all.

It most certainly is not only an issue for me when it is UKIP or Conservative...Don't be so presumptuous Livia.
That most certainly is not 'fair comment' and is an incendiary and baiting comment imo.

The tories are all for sub letting anyhoo....
Make sure the truth sees this he might rent out his home to 1 person and 6 move in and there wont be a damn thing he can do.

'Make it easier for individuals to sub-let a room through its intention to legislate to prevent the use of clauses in private fixed-term residential tenancy agreements that expressly rule out sub-letting or otherwise sharing space on a short-term basis, and consider extending this prohibition to statutory periodic tenancies.”

Yes but to be fair
this has nothing to with Labours Jim Murphy
using public money
to rent a second flat
while his 1st flat is sub let

That Stinks

And yes other partys are found out by Ch4HDNews
but this thread is about Jim Murphy a Labour man

I have no wish to bait you

It is relevant though, to the thread... it's not off topic, the changes if they don't already affect MPs as Joey suggested might soon?

We will only get decent politicians (is that an oxymoron?) When all the perks and expenses are stripped away and every MP has a basic wage and HAS to account for every other expenditure. Unlikely I know, but I can dream.
