Sure he's there to cause trouble. (and that's the staged bit)
But he's not watching every word and often just seems himself.

Like him or not, get the impression there's a real person underneath.
Especially when he took Chloe to one side.
Think it's his way of saying "Don't take me so seriously !"
But then if they don't, how far will he go ?!

Maybe it could go 1 of 2 ways.
He's there to stir the pot and never stop.
Or he'll get on with them and become a likable rogue.
