Default The word 'bullying'

Seeing as housemates are called bullies left, right and centre these days when most of the time they aren't anything of the sort...Harry, Marc, I'm sure I've even seen Cristian called a 'bully' recently which is just hilarious, I thought I'd post an example of a real instance of bullying on a version of Big Brother, which makes anything Helen ever did pale into insignificance and demonstrates just how silly accusations of 'bullying' are these days. Nothing like this has or probably will ever happen on BBUK (with the exception of Shahbaz and Shilpa which was bullying, but still not as bad as this), because they'd quite rightly be thrown out. It's disgusting, hard to watch and IMO puts things into perspective.

Ladies and gents, meet Scumanda (watch up to 2:30):

And:

There were multiple other incidents like these but CBS have taken the videos down. Oh, and she made racist comments all season long. True scum.

Marc is not a bully tho, that's kind of my point. Nothing he has done (or Helen, really) compares to what this vile waste of oxygen did all season long

Anyone who raises their voice is classed as a bully these days, its pathetic really. It also seems to be the 'go to' word that people use if they simply...dislike the 'bully' in question

Bullying takes many forms. The real problem with the word is how hysterical people get over it. That Helen was a bully last year is indisputable. Was she as horrid a bully as others? No, of course not. Did she have redeeming features? Sometimes.

The whole culture of this country is hysterical. It's not enough for people to put on a wristband, they have to make a load of noise, complain to ofcom, write to their MP, anything to let the world know they exist and should be celebrated for how much they care.

But the response to all that shouldn't be to deny that bullying takes place a lot, or to defend behaviour that is bullying just because it isn't as bad as other forms.

Can a person who uses the N word to talk about black people use the defence that they don't go as far as Hitler did, so therefore they're not really a racist.

I think he seeked to alienate Harry as well as repeated call names, slam her at any given opportunity etc etc

There are different levels of bullying, not sure if theres a cut-off point anywhere.. But to me, bullying, at its lowest level is anti-social behavior.. Anti-social behaviour isn't uncommon at all. I've seen it this series and many other series'.

To me people who regularly or deliberately use anti-social behaviour is a bully..

The B-word is overused, but that doesn't mean it's never warranted. Helen absolutely was a bully IMO.

This. And he acts this way towards her because she stands up for herself against him and bullies don't like it when someone stands up to them:

Good to see a few people remember this and don't just think Helen has turned him into a bastard

also on a side note, the video above is from a highly cut down episode version of the incident, when it unfolded on the feeds she was making comments about how she should have been swallowed, and remarks about her husband and kids

dumb people keep calling housemates bullies.Yet most of housemates don't know what bullying is. Connor is great example of what he did to deana.I wish we can ban the word bullying on this forum cause im sick and tired of seeing it all the time.

Are you saying that the video is the minimum a person should do to be called a bully is what the girl did in the video? Because I think bullying is far more fluid than that. Bullying, to me, can be much more discreet or insignificant than the video.

I can understand you not thinking that Marc is a bully if the video is a cut-off point for you but, personally, I have seen Marc cross my imaginary line of what bullying means to me several times.

I've noticed people throw the bully word around a lot too, I've also noticed people complaining about the overuse of the word.. I think the word has more of a personal meaning though, I guess it's up to each person to decide what level of anti-social behaviour is 'bullying'.

^I wanted to say something similar but I wouldn't have been able to express it as well as this so I'll just quote your post instead.

video was HM playing to the cameras..............bullying can be subtle and quiet too

............

the way i see things is that viewers can perceive bullying behavior as bullying whereas

in my view bullying is such incidents connected together in a longer term systematic

effort to undermine a weaker HM
