I worked in a PDSA charity shop for a little while last year, lots of really nice things there. No reason at all for people to look down on them imo.
This isn't me, but one of my aunt's cats (she has two) originally belonged to her neighbours. When they moved away, they left the cat behind (why the **** would you even do that?). My aunt was already fond of him because he used to wander over to her house every now and again even when he had owners, after he was abandoned she continued to feed him and eventually took him in as her own because she hated to think of him living on the streets alone. He's still happily living there.
It's similar to how I ended up owning my cat, actually. She was apparently homeless and, after we fed her one day (we didn't know she was homeless at the time, she was just hanging around so we fed her) she literally never left again

. We found out not long after that she had no owners anymore, whether they just threw her out or moved I'm not sure. Anyway, she became our pet after that, we only had her for a year before we unfortunately had to put her to sleep when she fell ill but I'm glad she had a home (and it felt like so much longer than a year tbh).
