But now we are 'moving the goalposts' Dezzy. He satisfies the 'SPORTS' part of the award, and does posses a 'Personality', be it a 'wretched one', whereas some past winners did not even possess any type of personality.

Someone can be likable even if they don't have a huge personality. It's easy to like people like David Beckham because of his achievements and because he seems like a nice person. It's ridiculous to nominate Tyson Fury, he may have a louder personality than most but it's also repugnant. He isn't likable. The fact that he's an awful human being overrides his achievements and makes him a strange nomination for a 'Sports Personality' award. Last edited by Tom4784; 08-12-2015 at 01:02 PM. |

Like all contentious subjects, it all comes down in the end to our own opinions and perceptions. I am an avid boxing fan so Fury's achievement - for me - is collossal and for that alone he deserves recognition and an award. Do I think that his idiotic comments are offensive? YES. Do I think that they should win him a 'Human of The Year' award? NO. And as idiotic and offensive as some of his comments are, they are LESS idiotic and offensive than many comments and acts of other famous people who have attained lofty positions or capitalised on such traits to become rich and even more famous, and I do not believe that these 'gaffes' should prevent Fury winning Sports Personality of The Year'. If he does NOT win it - it should NOT be for the reasons people are citing. In my opinion.

At least he'll lose with ease to Hamilton and Murray. I just wish there was more coverage of the smaller sports because getting the bronze in the women's world cup and continuing to be world champion in the long jump, heptathlon (literally more sports to achieve in) and what not is far more respectable than a bloke who punched another bloke and won on a judges decision. I just don't understand the celebration of his supposed boxing achievement when he's fought two fights this year. I don't doubt he's trained and worked a hell of a lot but it's just such a dull, barbaric sport for preening twats.

In my opinion, being honest, the "Sports Personality" award should really go to someone in the world of sports who has done or achieved something that hasn't been recognised through their own sport - e.g. setting up a sports center for troubled kids, going above and beyond with charity work, or even just doing a lot to really further and drive their sport forward. If there was a Sporting Achievement award for something that could be considered above the norm (which does apply in this case, it's a fascinating story) then there's no reason he shouldn't be considered. But he has really done nothing at all for the image of Boxing. In fact, he has done and said a lot to really set the sport back decades; back to the image of boxing not as a professional and disciplined art... but a slugging match for aggressive, thuggish, unintelligent blokes. Back to the days of Tyson Original biting off ears, etc. An image which it was starting to pull away from. |

He's a ****.
And for people defending him using freedom of speech, yes he does but everyone else also has freedom to criticize him for his statements and the right to be offended. It works both ways.

I just can't get excited about it, the guy is a prize knob, and the sports personality of the year is a non award of zero significance. Its got about as much relevance as crowning someone king/queen of the jungle.

What's ****ing astounding here is that very often on this forum people make the argument that certain people shouldn't win Big Brother (or other reality shows for that matter) because they're not very nice people, have said or done twattish things, and that as a result it would be 'immoral' if they won, and so should be evicted far in advance of that point.
Bearing in mind that mentality is in the context of a ****ing television programme of which its result will have no effect on its viewers, or any kind of cultural impact, just said person being financially rewarded (as if there aren't already thousands of ***** around the world making money they don't deserve). Yet here is an award that is culturally significant, does reflect a nation's beliefs, can endorse certain values and influence people as a result - and we're told it's perfectly okay for us to brush his comments under the carpet, pretend it's irrelevant and continue to support both his nomination and hypothetical win. What an absolutely ****ing ludicrous display of misplaced priorities and supposed 'morality'. This forum never ceases to amaze me ![]() |

No one has said on this thread that you can't voice your opinion, people want Fury removed from a sports award ceremony because they don't agree with his

Is that not part of traveller culture though, the women keep the house and the men are breadwinners? Who are we to judge other people for their beliefs and what works in their cultures

'It's their culture' isn't an excuse for backwards thinking, also it's offensive to suggest that the entire traveler community is as bigoted as this fool.

Then there needs to be a traveller revolt, those women who don't want to be just wives should say so, that's all it would take :/
As for his religious views he's not alone in that thinking is he? and even though things are changing it's at a slower rate in some places than others. Maybe his achievements are great but I wouldn't say his off screen persona warrants 'personality' of the year in all honesty.

And Lewis Hamilton is more deserving of a place in the line up than Fury?
![]() He CHEATED during the Australian Grand Prix in 2009. He CHEATED during his relationship with Nicole Scherzinger. Fury might spout bollocks but he is a loving Father and husband who DOTES on his wife and kids. I don't see anyone onjecting to Hamilton being in the contest.
