I think with Cheryl though, when she joined the x factor she suddenly became a household name (which she wasn't before even with the success of girls aloud) and she was branded 'the nations sweetheart' etc, and people just fell in love with her a bit because she came across really well, and all of that gave her solo career a massive boost on it's launch. Whereas Rita's situation is different, in terms of where her careers at but also in that the X Factor doesn't have the same influence it did when Cheryl joined, and just personality wise, she's very different to Cheryl. So I'm not saying that a judging role will
always give someone a leg up in the industry, I just think that specifically with Cheryl it did.
