Default London Gun Cops New Years Leave cancelled Amid Fears Of Terrorist Attack

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...-gun-cops.html

EVERY firearms officer in London will be on duty for tonight’s New Year’s Eve celebrations after all leave was cancelled.

It is the first time Scotland Yard has halted all New Year breaks for the more than 2,000 armed cops in the capital.

The move comes after a “friendly” intelligence agency warned jihadists were planning a terror attack in a European city.

There is no specific information to suggest London is the target. Revellers have been urged to continue as usual despite the biggest December 31 police mobilisation.

TONIGHT’S New Year’s Eve fireworks display in Brussels has been cancelled over terror fears.

The Belgian capital’s mayor Yvan Mayeur explained: “We’re forced to cancel considering the risk analysis done.”

The city was home to four of the IS terrorists who hit Paris last month.

A light show at the Arc de Triomphe will be cut back and booze restricted.

Thanks for this Adam.

My revelry will be done at a party at my home, but I sincerely hope that no threatened terrorist attacks do happen and that all innocent people everywhere can enjoy their celebrations in safety.

'A light show at the Arc de Triomphe will be cut back and booze restricted'

How will this counter terrorism?

The shorter a duration that an event is which draws masses of people together, then the less opportunity for any terrorists to have such a huge static target.

Intoxicated people are notoriously much more difficult to control should evacuation procedures become necessary, or if panic sets in - especially when en masse.

It all makes perfect sense to me.

FFS - That fact is glaringly obvious and has nothing at all to do with the questions you asked in your post and the answers which I gave in mine, so why even respond with such a comment?

Obviously this is correct and makes sense in terms of safety, however, overwhelmingly the feeling I get from it is that basically what we're seeing is people voluntarily (or not?) limiting their freedom and their enjoyment of life based on fear...

And is that not the goal? To put restrictions on our freedoms and decadence? To see us all on tighter leashes?

Isn't it just holding up a huge banner to any Jihad Joe saying "Hey check it out guys! Your attacks really do work, we're changing and restricting our lives because we fear you."

It doesn't seem right to force these restrictions, I guess is all I'm saying. Make the events adults only, make it clear to people that there may be risks, and then leave it up to individuals whether they want to play it safe, or want to go out, have a massive party, stick two fingers up and shout "I'm not afraid of you, I won't change my life for you."

I have to be honest and say that I'd rather be blown to bits doing that, than die an old man cowering in a bunker.

I actually am with you on this - I would not personally change my plans or routine, but I was just answering Kizzy's questions as to how the authorities measures aided 'Counter Terrorism'.

And as I said - from their POV it all makes perfect sense to me.

Please don't swear at me.
if there's a light show people will be attracted to see it no matter how long the duration, if they were that worried they should jut not have a light show at all.
Enforcing who has alcohol as well as maintaining vigilance for terrorist activity is a tall order.
