So Queer as Folk is wrong because forgetting the context of it has the word Queer in it?
Liam asked a question, and an important question at that. The Emily saga was blown way out of proportion imo. |

i) To be nicey-nicey to your fellow HMs and rarely be up for nomination or ii) To be exciting, argumentative, entertaining, vindictive.... you'll be put up for nomination but the public will ALWAYS keep you in. Just because Charley aint playing i) doesn't mean she's not playing ii). |

I don't think Liam should be kicked out, he was just asking if it was offensive or not, I'm sure that if Emily was asking Charley whether the n word was offensive or not instead of actually using it to refer to Charley then she probably wouldn't have been kicked out neither.
But I am surprised that nothing was done about it, a spokeswoman said that Big Brother (or Channel 4, I forget) thought that the n word was unacceptable to use under any circumstances, no matter what the context. So I am surprised that a homophobic term was treated differently. But don't get me wrong, I don't think Liam should be chucked out. Well, I DO think he should be chucked out because he's a terrible housemate but not for asking if that word was offensive. |

It was a casual discussion about the word in question. At no point did I actually hear him calling anyone the Q word.
If he is kicked out over that then I have lost all faith in BB. |

Its funny how people only hear what they want to,liam just asked the question how else do we learn, also so gerry went on to talk about black history slaverey e.t.c should we chuck gerry out because hes not black then no, come on get with the context of the conversation.

queer Pronunciation[kweer] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation adjective, -er, -est, verb, noun
–adjective 1. strange or odd from a conventional viewpoint; unusually different; singular: a queer notion of justice. 2. of a questionable nature or character; suspicious; shady: Something queer about the language of the prospectus kept investors away. 3. not feeling physically right or well; giddy, faint, or qualmish: to feel queer. 4. mentally unbalanced or deranged. 5. Slang: Disparaging and Offensive. a. homosexual. b. effeminate; unmanly. This 'argument' is quite laughable - Liam asked a question whether it was offensive to call a homosexual man a 'queer' as in number 5 of the dictionary term being disparaging and/or offensive. Gerry replied 'yes it can be seen as offensive' and Liam was satisfied with the answer. Liam did not use the term to offend or belittle a demographic of society therefore no warning was given nor should he be kicked out. If I was to say 'I am feeling a little queer today' am I then stating an offence for using the word in context 3? As Liam has now asked the question and received an answer then to use the word as an offensive remark then it would be safe to say that he is due a warning or be kicked out. |

I also think gerry quite enjoyed the conversation he went on explaining the meaning of the q word and its history, see we all learn something whats so bad about that.

If emily had said "Does the word "n" offend you?"
She wouldnt get kicked out, its just the fact she aimed the word at a blackp person she got kicked out. Liam did no wrong. |

Actually I was not thinking of Charley at all, so what ever you think about her, can we leave that to one side?
Emily used the N word in a non racist context, which was not carried on the live feed. The circle that she moved in threw it around as a term of endearment. Yet She was kicked out in the small hours in her nightie. (I was surprised they did not have the police their to arrest her on the grounds of suspected incitement to commit racial hatred to put her in a freezing cell with no extra coat to wear) Laura uses a word against a straight person and is reprimanded because a few viewers complained (Gerry did not take offence at all) So if the merest utterance of a word is a hanging offence in one case then why not in all cases. To be consistent Channel 4 would be expected to clump down with it's nut-cracking-sledgehammer on Liam as well, for uttering the Q word. But nothing Channel 4 has been inconsistent Bringing Charlie back in, here, it has been reported that she was given a quiet word about the N word, showing a clear double standard, hence the official complaint put in by Emily Emily was branded a racist and kicked out as a sacrificial lamb because of the OfCom adjudication for alleged racism in CBB, (which is also contested) If the CBB scandal had been one of bullying a homosexual, would Emily have been spared and Laura kicked out and a reprimand to Liam? O consistency thou art a jewel |
