Does the show really need him though? Out of all the people to bring back, he'd probably contribute the least.

I agree. I'd imagine the writers have probably hit a wall with Ben/Paul and need Johnny to come in - it's probably nothing to do with the Carters.

I don't know, it depends what happens when Abi returns, I highly doubt it's going to be as simple as Ben sitting her down, telling her he's gay then walking off into the sunset with Paul. There will be something that prevents him from telling her. Then, when he finally does tell her, we'll probably have some sort of revenge plot and a dramatic climax to Abi's growing feisty behaviour these past few years. I don't see how Johnny would come into it and I think it would be a bit ridiculous if Ben cheated on Abi to get with Paul, then cheats on Paul to get with Johnny...

Not here for the recast of Johnny. Sam Strike is so hot

I don't remember Johnny ever being THAT into Ben though tbh. He was more concerned with Ben just coming out and being honest with himself.
I am looking forward to him coming back - the Carters haven't been anywhere near as good since he left. He was a strong character and Nancy has been pretty boring without him. It was nice to see a sibling relationship so close that would actually take a lot to pull apart. His closeness to his family made his exit make no sense anyway.
Sam strike isn't coming back and I doubt he ever had any intention of doing. You don't leave a huge role like that after a year if you actually wanted to be there.

Reading Sam Strike's comments on DS, he sounds mighty ungrateful and a bit precious tbh.

He left because he wanted "lots of stories" and basically be centre of attention.

Johnny had one of the biggest storylines in 2014 and the Carters have been front and centre ever since

I have a feeling he didn't like being the gay character

Also some drama behind the scenes

One of the writers Jeff Povey stated that he was unhappy with the Tony/Whitney storyline because at the time they were told not to cast an Asian man even though sexual abuse is more prominent within the Asian community. He basically accused TPTB of white washing. EastEnders have hit back and said he wasn't involved in the casting process and it had nothing to do with him!

Looks like someone is out of a job.

When I was watching them film Lucy's funeral he was very reserved and didn't come across to all the screaming girls and me.

On the other hand people Adam (Ian) came along and had photos with us.

And all the extras! Oh and everyone waved at me when the coach was departing as me and my mum were the only ones on the right side, every got pushed to the left.

Lauen, Roxy, Ian, Lola, peter, Sharon, etc. waving at me

Surprised he's come out with that whilst still working for the show.

If he was an actor I'd predict him being killed off, maybe with the writers they actually kill them.

I remember in their first year, Nancy had nothing to do whilst all the focus was on Johnny.

So he can kiss my ass.

I always expected he would die in action because I don't think that's been touched on in a soap before

Lee was supposed to commit suicide at the end of his depression storyline, wasn't he? But they couldn't do it because it would be "triggering".

Ooh really? I think there's too much suicide in EastEnders with Ian and Kat both attempting it within the last year so I can see why they've changed the course of the story.

Yeah, I'd be very surprised if that turned out to be true. I can't ever recall EastEnders showing a completed suicide before. It'd have certainly been a first.

I remember them saying they abandoned the idea because it would've made the entire story "too depressing even for Eastenders".

Yeah Sam Strike has come across as a arrogant prick since he left EE. Clearly wanted a lot of the spotlight on him, despite the fact that it's a soap with about 30 or so characters to cater for.
He's clearly a very talented actor and everyone who has worked with him has said how professional and brilliant he is, but jeez. Learn some humility.
