A nine-week-old boy has been snatched from his home in Telford, West Mercia Police said.

Officers were called to the address in Arleston at shortly before 3pm on Wednesday after a report the boy had been taken.

Police said it is believed the child - who has not yet been named - might be in the company of a white woman in her 30s and with dyed reddish brown hair.

An urgent appeal has been launched after the baby was taken from a house in Manor Road.

The baby was wearing a blue woollen jacket and a cream baby-gro with a teddy bear on the left hand side.

A police spokesman said: "It is thought the child may be in the company of a white woman with dyed reddish brown hair, which she wore off her face, and is around 5ft 5ins tall.

"She is also thought to have a lump under her nose and a gap between her front teeth. She is believed to be between 30 and 40 years of age.

"She was last seen wearing an army green zip-up jacket and a small black bag over her shoulder."

Residents in Manor Road claimed the mother of the baby may have been tricked into leaving the infant with a woman who called at her home.

One woman, who declined to be named, said the mother returned shortly afterwards and found her baby had gone.

wonder how on earth this could have happened. Why would anyone leave their baby at home with a stranger :S

It's not far from where I live Ammi,so we knew pretty quickly he had been found,two women been arrested.Good news
