Default Nightmares/Night Terrors

I used to have them when I was younger but haven't had one in years until last night; which was the worst I have ever had

It was me on the phone to my dad, he got kidnapped and was driving in his car with a gun to his head, my guess was that he was being forced to drive to his bank or something, he sounded absolutely petrified on the phone and was crying his eyes out, I have only seen my dad cry once (his mums death).

What I didn't like is that it felt 100% real, every action and feeling would have been exactly the same had it happened in real life. He was telling me to ring my sister because he couldn't get through to her which was realistic as she's generally hard to get hold of, he sounded like it was the last time we would ever speak I then rang my sister explaining what was happening and she started crying and panicking and I did the same. I got off the phone to her and called my dad back but there was no answer my dad always answers his phone. My mum came in the room and I started crying to her presuming he was dead.

Back to real life, I woke up and immediately started crying and rang my dad straight away, he answered and I was literally sobbing on the phone telling him what happened, at first he laughed but then told me to calm down, he blamed it on the fact that I'm obsessed with scary movies and crime programmes (which I was watching before going to bed), my partner also woke up and was trying to calm me down.

I don't know if I explained this properly or it didn't sound scary to you but it was one of the most horrible experiences of my life. Thank god it was my day off today

Has anyone had a similar experience to this or your own night terror? I would be grateful if you shared

I once had a really realistic dream that I'd shot someone and they'd died. When I woke up, the first thing I heard was a siren of some sort outside and it took me a full minute to realise that it had been a dream. Like I was literally lying in bed thinking what I was going to do and scared I was going to jail

That's so sad, and sounds like it must have been really scary! I've never had a nightmare like that before. I've had a couple in the past where something really upsetting has happened and even after I've woken up, I've felt upset for a while afterwards, but nothing that I think I'd describe as a night terror.

....awwww Germyle, how terrifying and upsetting.....hmmm, maybe these things could have some bearing on scary movies/crime programmes that you're watching atm, as your dad said/I don't know much about the psychology of dreams but I guess I would think that the association there if there was one, would be worries and stuff going around in your head atm..?...and those just being released through your mind's resting time in sleep to the things that you watch..if these things are an 'obsession' for you/a particular interest as you say ..and yet you haven't had such a scary dream for a long time/several years then it would seem more, just how your worries are manifesting..?...

...you though, these things really do seem so real.....

I have nightmares like 5/6 times a week. I can only ever sleep for like 5 hours at a time (at the most) and my dreams are always broken up. I don't know if there's a difference between a night terror or a nightmare, but I get them so often. I used to have a dream catcher (which i only had for like 3 days so i never knew if it worked) so I'd recommend you buy one of those maybe?

But yeah most of my nightmares involve zombies or terrorists or criminals trying to kill someone in my family/friends. Its horrible, they always feel so real.

...yeah well, I think that's because you absorb so much of the worries etc of others, missy...you're a bit of a 'fixer' in life and so you release stuff that you need to in your sleep and 'unconscious' times.../I make this stuff up as I go along.....but I do think that you are a 'fixer' person/character so it is possible that there could be a connection, will have to put a googling hat on when I have time...

I know why it happened now, another family member is in serious trouble and I sensed it, this has happened a few times, I wouldn't go as far as using the word psychic but I have dreamt about things that end up happening in real life.

That's a lot of times! Your dreams are similar to mine though, I will consider getting a dream catcher but surely they're not legit?

I dunno, I doubt they really work, I think it's just a psychological thing really. But my sister loves hers (which was mine but I gave it to her, the bitch)

so yeah, who knows! good luck either way <3

This stuff can be terrifying Germyle, I had a nightmare to do with family about a year ago now I think.

My parents had agreed to let my Niece and Nephew stay over for the night, as me and my Brother was helping them get to Bed a group of men broke into our house they shot my Mom and Dad, they knocked my Brother out, and they pointed a Gun to my head as they kidnapped my Niece and Nephew as leverage and they gave out a ransom that the family had to pay out money to them to get back my Niece and Nephew otherwise they was gonna get killed, I remember that I was going to commit Arson to help get the money together and then the nightmare ended.

I've never actually told any of my family that I had this nightmare, it would probably freak them out like I did to me that day.

I have nightmares a lot. Mainly about terrorists, the grudge or family members dying. I have them so often, though. I used to have recurring dream when I was younger that I never understood but it's really similar to a scene from the omen so I probably seen the movie and my mind kept those images.

I used to have a recurring nightmare as a kid. I'd be in the living room with my family and I'd hear noises that no one else hear from outside and then I'd hear faint laughing and I'd see an odd shadow moving about outside, the laughing would get louder and i'd start hearing an awful scraping sound. Eventually this monstrous man with long claws would appear at the window and he'd laugh and smile at me and drag those claws across the window pane to try to get in. He'd then disappear only to rip his way through a wall and come to get me while my family did nothing.

Looking back this nightmare man was very much like a Freddy Krueger figure but I never actually watched those films until I was a teenager

Recurring nightmares are the worst, I had one as a kid I briefly remember parts, my house used to be empty and dark but not that dark greyish kinda, and the house felt silent and I saw shadows and followed them and I always followed it to my parents room and this shadow man appeared, that's all I remember, but to this day if nobody's home and it's dark I still don't step foot in my parents room

I can't even remember it now but I had a really bad one when I was at home for a brief period and remember waking up and going through to my brother's room and giving him a hug because something bad happened to him in the nightmare. Are night terrors a different thing to nightmares? An ex of mine said he gets them and it's always about the devil sitting on his chest and him not being able to move, I noped the hell out of that Paranormal Activity ****

The ones where you're being chased are the worst, especially because you can't control whether they will get you or not
