Alright Tom.. It added to the overall performance and what I decided to do as an act. It was part of my staging. Not that it really matter if it annoyed you it's a creative competition at the end of the day and I'll be submitting my own as part of my entry.

I won't be taking part this time. And I'll tell you why...

When I first started taking part in TiBB Eurovision it was a great laugh, no one expected to win and took it as the bit of forum fun that it was. Everyone worked hard on their song and everyone else respected that. Sadly... since the moment I found out that people had started to vote for themselves, something great has turned into something shabby and self-indulgent. Who ever heard of ANYONE voting for themselves for ANYTHING except on here?

Also, it used to be that you'd enter a song that people had changed the lyrics to or something they'd written themselves. Now it's turning into a competition to see who can make the best YouTube video and sadly I don't have these skills... and I'm not alone.

It's been spoilt for me by people who can't play a fair game. Shame...

Yeah I kind of agree with this; it sucks to spend time writing a funny parody of an existing song about something that's been in the news or something silly, expecting to be pitted against other similar entries, only for somebody playing an entirely different game to win it. Last time I made a lyric video for mine because I felt it was no longer enough to just write a parody but there's no way I'm doing that again. I'll continue to write my parodies and enjoy the entries that follow the same pattern, to me that's what TiBB Eurovision should be all about.

I didn't realise people voted for themselves I thought in Eurovision, countries aren't allowed to give votes to themselves?

Although I don't think it's fair to criticise the types of entries people submit. Everyone is good at different things, and I'm not so great with lyrics or making parody songs, but I enjoy music production/remixing/video editing and I wanted to share that with the forum. I was under the impression that you could submit anything that was music/song related. (And I didn't even make it into the top 20 whereas most of the entries where people had changed song lyrics did, so it's not the case that youtube type entries have an unfair advantage.) It's all in the spirit of fun though surely, it doesn't really matter who wins.

I wouldn't say I'm criticising other types of entries, just that when I first took part in this game it was all about silliness and parodies but the game has changed a lot whereas my style of entries have stayed the same and it's maybe not as enjoyable as it used to be.

I don't think a video automatically gives you a better chance of winning, I've never won with a video, the only time I've come close to winning with a recorded entry was in the first competition (Not that I'm at all bitter about it).

There's plenty of entries in the past who have done videos and haven't done as well as people who simply write lyrics. It's the content that matters, not how you present it.

I've always taken part in this with the mindset of being happy to come wherever.. the quality within the top 10 entries alone is always really high so this is probably one of the only games/events on tibb where i don't feel a competitive edge in taking part. It's always fun making the songs and the night itself is probably one of the best nights on the forum with no drama involved. Your entries alone are always a really high standard so it'd be a shame to have less people taking part.. i'm sure something can be done to stop people voting for themselves (i never knew that happened )

oh god isn't there enough negativity on the forum without this as well?

(and I'm curious about the 'voting for themselves' element... the only ones that can do that are the judges unless this is about what I fell out with Mokka over in which case I've moved on, I have no ill-feelings towards her any more, and it really didn't matter she would've won without her own rankings)

Yeah I always thought we weren't allowed to vote for ourselves (obviously the judges have to place their songs somewhere though) maybe the judges should only judge then and that would discount it altogether? Not that I'm really bothered either way though

I get that but people who are newer to the forum aren't going to know what the game used to be like

It just bothers me a bit that you're basically saying you're only going to enjoy a specific type of entry, I had no idea people had that view when it came to this competition. I thought it was about seeing all the different types of things people come up with, and enjoying them. It makes me think what's the point in taking part if my entry is going to be ignored because it doesn't follow a certain pattern. I put in so much time and effort on my entry last time, and the competition was honestly the most enjoyable thing I've done on tibb (not just creating my own, but enjoying what everyone managed to do too, regardless of if they were lyrics/videos/recordings of them singing etc) it was just fun to see how creative people are. I'm not having a go at you, I'm just a bit taken back because I thought the whole idea was about people expressing themselves, and appreciating each others creativity etc. I don't care about winning, but I'm thinking now, why bother spend ages trying to put something together if it's going to be ignored, or ruin other peoples enjoyment of the competition.

I've always had that view though, my preference is for written word parodies because that's the type of entry that I've always submitted, I don't really enjoy other types of entries as much but there have been exceptions, it's hard to define. It is about expressing yourself and appreciating creativity, and I mostly enjoy people expressing themselves through written word parodies... I don't think there's anything wrong with that, that's just my particular personal preference and I'm just one person out of many who take part and vote... But similarly, I've wondered in recent times whether to bother because the most recent winners and high ranking entries have been completely different from everyone else, i.e. being uniquely creative and being rewarded for it. That's great, and I don't want to take anything away from anyone, I just find it a bit disappointing on a personal level to put in something funny but be beaten by something visual or a vocal recording when I appreciate humour above everything else, that's all!

It's hard to read this as any more than sour grapes. If people are going to go the extra mile and pull something out of the bag that's unexpected, or of a high creative standard, then of course they're going to do well in the competition - it's not as if there're campaigns to get them to win, it's obviously universally seen by the voters as something worthy of winning. Also, didn't you submit a video at Christmas greg? It got you third place, if you'd like to retract it...

We've had loads of entries submitted that've used video editing techniques, members' own vocals, mock-up stage designs, outfit choices, even a video from Ugandan schoolchildren, that have failed to make an impression on the top five of their respective years so I hardly see it as an endemic, unfair advantage, they're just songs that didn't grab the voters. In fact, of the 10 winners, 7 have been written entries, one has been an audio recording (Mokka) (with written entry accompanying it), one has been a lyric video (with written entry accompanying it) (Mollie) and one has been a music video made with GIFs and movie clips (johnny).

To address the judges' situation, I'm happy enough to stand down although I believe the highest I've ever ranked my own entry was 8th, and I trust Josiah to be impartial whether he submits a song or not. The other three - I believe - aren't submitting songs, so no issue there. But I really don't see a problem with us five

I vote for the highest quality song (for what I believe to be) and always have done. My top points pretty much went to the top 5 of Xmasvision. Whether that is in video form or just lyrics has won me over is entirely down to how I perceive it to be good.

yes if a song is written about me then that helps to get points x (but even then in the last contest I had two songs written about me and one of them was in the middle of my rankings.

Let's stop with the boring drama, shall we?

History has proved that it doesn't matter if you just do lyrics or anything extra. It's the song that counts. For every person that's won with a recording or a video there's plenty more that have flopped *Sheepish glance at my back catalogue*.

I think the whole Judges' vote complaints is a bit silly too, from what I remember the judges rarely agree with the normal voting and it's those votes that often decides who wins.

Boring drama?! Literally all I've said is I prefer one type of entry to another and I prefer to see those types of entries win over others because that's the type of entry I submit...

*was actually considering making a thread like TiBB Eurovision's 50 Greatest Entries but felt uncomfortable about picking my own songs *

might just call it 50 Shades of Slay instead

Ok that's fair enough, I think I just interpreted it as something where you and Livia were basically saying, this is OUR game and other people (like me) have come along and ruined it, type thing. It just wound me up because I loved the competition at xmas (and my top marks went to a lyric parody, I think) but I like that there's a bit of variety, makes it more interesting imo. I do get what you're saying though
