My views on abortion have softened over the years... Since me and my wife experiencing two early miscarriages, actually (in November of 2014 and 2015... Becoming a tradition...). The first time we were quite upset about it, the second time - as awful as it may sound - it barely registered. It sort of forces you to realise that it's not the same thing as a late stage stillbirth or losing a child, at all.
I'd say that these days, I'm not necessarily against early abortion, up to 12 weeks. I am still entirely against late stage abortion for any reason other than there being a risk to the mother's life. Abortions happen at 20+ weeks, and they are simply barbaric. In some cases Abortions are carried out when the child could technically survive if born prematurely. How that can be considered anything other than murder, I'm not sure.
All that said, in the cases mentioned here, there's absolutely no reason that an abortion should be left so late. In an ideal world, anyone who is raped should receive immediate help from the authorities which should include the morning after pill as a precaution, eliminating the risk entirely. I know that we're along way from rape being quuickly or reliably reported, though, which is another huge issue in itself.
In general... I do wish that more people were open to the idea of adoption when it comes to "simple" unwanted pregnancies. People think the child will just risk ending up in care but that's simply not true of new-born babies... There is a HUGE waiting list of pre-approved couples looking to adopt at birth.
