I wish she had chosen wording with some elegance... but I think what she is aiming to say is that her generation, before her generation, and up to the late 90's... when you were at an age to be explorative about who you were sexually... the option to think of same sex attraction was shunned, actively discouraged, and prosecutable by law to one point and by society for the rest of the time line.
I have said to my daughter, that when I was a pre-teen, and sex education classes were a new concept in the education system, we were told dreams and fantasies about the opposite sex were common, but didn't have foundation in reality... so squash them, and Sharon Osborn has more then a couple of decades on me in the age department, so, yes, I get her point. She is past that time where sexual curiosity and exploration can unveil a new path for herself, as a married woman and mother... but she is probably more aware today, in a society that is more open and honest about the realities of sexual attraction... that maybe her choices would have been different given other opportunities and circumstances.
And yes, she is a public figure on a show that loves a good "talk headline"... but I can see the honesty in what she is saying.
