Oh did they? I'm not sure, I just vaguely remember ads normally starting a few days before launch. Could be wrong but I never noticed them if they did start sooner

About a month prior to the launch is when eye flashes started appearing and I remember there would also always be a steady stream of rumours and promo happening in Heat

fair enough.

i think people shouldn't really take the promotion too seriously tho. I'm quite sure most people who would have wanted to give BB a go, would have done so between 2000 and 2006 when it was relevant and got 5m viewers.

Most of channel 5's target audience were probably too young to get into BB back then though

You'd think five years into C5's tenure with the show it would be obvious to everyone (I mean it was from the very start) but again, it's not the case!

Read some of the threads from the last week back. People seem to like deluding themselves into thinking that C5 promoting CBB more, providing more live feed for it and various other things is because 'it's more popular', as if that just happens on its own

Well to be fair it kind of does. Every year from 2006 onwards on C4, CBB rated higher than the BB that followed that year, and I'd imagine that this is because of the fact more people watch TV in January, it's less of a commitment than normal BB, and celebs bring their own fanbases to the show.

Well the race row started that off and the civilian show's gradual decline from BB8 onwards only continued the trend. I'm not saying C5's promotion of CBB is the only reason it's more popular, there are other factors like a celebrity-obsessed culture at play, but it certainly helps.

They should be throwing promotion and money and their flagging shows, not the ones that are already successful, this really should go without saying for any channel. The reason they don't do this for the civilian series has absolutely **** all to do with money or ratings, it is because they do. not. care. about it.

Are you saying they deliberately make the normal BB crap? I don't get it like what could they possibly gain from that. Yes they've made some awful decisions regarding BB but in their eyes it was to try and improve the show. If BBUK got the same ratings as CBB they'd be loving it.
Also lets be real BB17 has had far better promotion than CBB17, all CBB17 had was short 10 second adverts and one billboard poster on the day of the launch, BB17 has had promoted tweets and a decent advert that was on the front page of YouTube and got more than 600k views on Facebook

Yeah C4 did promote better. They released the BB6 eye like 5 weeks before the launch and they started the countdowns 18 days before the launch - C5 only ever start it 7 days before and that's if they even decide to have countdowns.
