The best BB's on Ch4 (as sick as it sounds) used to be really good at making the series look like these people were gonna be dull for the first few days, then by the end of the week tension would rise a bit, and then going into week 2 onwards Ch4 would encourage it to get more and more tense between Housemates by slowly breaking them down.
Ch5 BB is like watching a really Chavy episode of Eastenders.

The best C4 series are considered 5, 6, and 7 and they were arguing with eachother within days (or on the first night in the case of 6)
