Hughie and Ryan are camp by its very definition, they trivialise important issues and they make a drama out of trivial ones. Andy turned that on its head last night and high lighted how it's not always acceptable to just breeze through life with no respect and no empathy for others. He's spent four weeks trying to reason with them and failed so now he's cranked it up a gear. I would love it if he plays really dirty for the second half of the show.
Not one housemate spoke up to defend Andy from Hughies disgusting bahaviour last time so this time Andy made damn sure they couldn't ignore it....good for him.

"Trying to do something about it" - what, like talk about it on Big Brother? Lmao he doesn't need to write, he's having all of his martyrdom done for him by his fans.

No, by what he does in his real life, writing and campaigning and losing his job over his beliefs. Most of us leave it to others, he doesn't. Surely you can give him credit for that.

35 years ago it was illegal for gay men to have sex before the age of 21 but straight guys could have sex at 16. You could go to war and kill a man but you could not go to bed and love one. At the height of the AIDS epidemic Mrs Thatcher introduced Clause 28 forbidding the mention of gay lifestyles across every school and public place of teaching in the country, she made being gay a dirty word. One of her Tory back benchers proposed gay people shud be gassed to rid the world of their self made disease. Tory newspapers ran jokes about it...." I've got bad news and good news, the bad news is I am gay, the good news is I have AIDS " Ronald Reagan pulled the plug on any public support of the gay community and Thatcher backed him. Meanwhile medical companies were making billions for the USA and themselves by abusing victims with lies and fake miracle cures and using them as Guinea pigs until most of them died, not from the disease but from the side affects of experimental drugs....the only gay guys affected by the disease back then and still living today are the ones who refused to take the drugs in the 1980s because they didn't trust the government and the drug companies.
Wasn't until 1999 that a diversity law was put in place to protect gay people from discrimination in the work place, before that it was professional suicide to tell people at work that you were gay.
1981 and 1999 may seem like Jurassic times to younger people but for people who are old enough to remember it seems like yesterday. So of course some of people find Ryan and Hughies trivial care free life style and their lack of knowledge about why they have it, irritating sometimes, especially when it's being used to confront and poke fun at someone who respects what the cost of that freedom was for so many people.

I'm with you Jan on this one....all the way....I've not cut a paste cause it's a big post but it's a very stark reminder of some of the awful things we've seen even since the 2000s came in.

What a superficial and horrible thing to say. You must take the persecution of gay people very lightly.

not at all, but i cant see how 2 people joking around can cause issues for people compared to two people actually getting engaged on tv...

I actually take the persecution of any person very seriously indeed.

I take that back then. I thought you were dissing Andy and Ed's engagement but I understand what you mean now.
Neither scenario would bother me, but I'm not Andy. He feels how he feels.

No one was contributing to the stoning of people in other countries...it was a very simple case of Ryan and Hughie thumbing their nose at Andys engagement and sending it up so they could diminish it in front of the viewers and the other housemates. It was disrespectful and confrontational but unlike the last time Hughie did that and no one supported Andy, this time Andy made sure they couldn't ignore it. He backed them into a corner where no one was gonna support them, he flipped it on its head. Clever.

It would have been clever if he had maybe refrained from the character annihilation of hughie in the diary room, or his refusal to back down on something that he was obviously so over the top and wrong about.

I like Andy, but he overreacted. Hughie and Ryan were only messing around. I don't think they did it to upset Andy.

It was BLATANTLY a snide attempt to have a dig at Andy......absolutely no doubt about it as far as i'm concerned.

Even though both Ryan and Hughie are thick as **** even they wouldn't have come up with something like that as a joke the very next day after Andy had got engaged without realising exactly what they were doing.

Ryan's nastiness was obvious right from the start but Hughie wasn't far behind him. Hughie's mask is slipping fast and i think he's just just getting worse by the day.

Back down about someone who had tried to make a mockery of him for airtime for getting engaged to the man he loves - someone who had harassed him days earlier?
Why?
Would you?

Exactly....and no, I wouldn't back down...in fact I would Rev it up to top gear and I hope he continues to do just that.

And anyway, Hughie fans should be happy about it....it means Hughie has got a new sparring partner...since Natalie left his fans have been hitting the ground faster than Emma hits the button marked ME ME ME.

Andy is doing him a favour.

Hughie and Ryan were talking in the stone room about their relationship....and about taking it to the next level of being b/f and b/f ....this no doubt lead them to come up with the joke as regards getting engaged. There was no evidence of any malice or raining on Andys parade shown so its really all speculation as to whether they did it maliciously.

To me Andy was being over sensitive and his dislike of the two guys just enhanced this.

And in other parts of the world people are still being stoned and thrown from buildings for being gay...

Yes, i think they do like each other, but the engagement was clearly a joke. This has made me like Hughie more and Andy less. Because Andy overreacted big time.

Everyone is jealous of Andy's engagement. Didn't you know that? He told us right after it happened.

I don't understand how this year in the house whenever a housemate upsets someone else it's the person who's been upset that gets the blame...how does their snidy little piss take make them not in any way to blame....how is it Andys fault because he didn't like it ? If they didn't like Andys reaction then they should have thought about that before they tried to patronise and mock him.. If you wanna go around offending people then you don't get to choose the other persons reaction....the mere fact that Ryan and Hughie wanted to upset someone on purpose means that they are always gonna be more in the wrong no matter how big the explosion they cause.

Don't think that was Ryan & Hughie intention at all, not one bit. But I can see how someone who has suffered and fought would find it inappropriate.
I also feel like Andy got so upset because his own engagement just happened and so it really hit close to home. We know Hughie does and says things in the moment to get reactions and get screentime and Ryan would go along with it. Do I think they meant it maliciously? No, but do I think they are in a place of a bit higher privilege and were taking the piss a bit, yes.
