Andy knows what he is doing and is at all times and is complicit in his actions...Jason is more reactive, he reacts to situations to protect himself. They clearly both want to be liked, it effects them in different ways or what we see in the way they react to not being liked or criticised. Jason goes into himself and beats himself up where as Andy, in his own devised mechanism way, goes into sly mode, contemptuous mode, in denial mode, deflective mode, scheming mode.
