Default 2 Gay Fellas touched each other in a London Sainsburys - Security Stopped them

They were just live on BBCNewsHD

Sainsburys gave them a £10 Voucher

The Security Staff are a outside firm
working in Sainsburys.
I assume the Security Fella thought its was like Porno or something?

A GAY couple were left “shocked and dumbfounded” after a Sainbury’s security guard told them they were “touching inappropriately”.

[Thomas Rees and his boyfriend Josh
were visiting their
local branch in Hackney, London
when a security guard
approached them to
say a customer had
complained about
their behaviour.]

[The 32-year-old told
ITVNewsHD “When we got
outside I was ready to
apologise and then he
said a customer had
complained about our behaviour.
“My blood boiled.
I was shaking and
dumbfounded and
unable to respond.
He kept repeating the
customer felt our
behaviour was inappropriate.”]

Yeah, I read about this yesterday.

Stories like his annoy me, only because it's a reminder that homophobia will always exist.

Yeah, one of my oldest friends is gay and when we go out somewhere more "modern" like Glasgow West end, him and his partner (of nearly 10 years) hold hands / hug etc like any other couple... But if we're ever out anywhere like a more "small town" pub, they interact like just good friends. Makes me genuinely sad to see it.

Hmm, I don't know about that, arista. If it were a straight couple it might not have been the same situation.

Sounds to me like the Security Officer had a problem with the couple and made up a complaint in order to take it out on them. If a customer legitimately complained about people holding hands then they'd be laughed out of the shop.

If that's what they said - customers in general have a tendency to exaggerate when making complaints, so who knows what they said.

Even if there is a complaint, there'd be plenty of Customer and Stock assistants about and they'd typically clock inappropriate behavior before anyone else. Plus confronting someone like that on nothing but the supposed word of a homophobe is likely going against store protocol. You usually have to confirm something is afoot before you confront someone since you risk situations like this.

I'd bet money on the guard simply being a homophobe. I've worked on a Customer Service desk before and the protocol for most complaints is to deliver a stock response and blow them off. You only take action on legitimate complaints and chances are the staff will know what's happening and will act on it sooner than someone has a chance to make a complaint.

Yeah, it's a shame. I'm generally quite private when it comes to PDA (probably as a result of stories like this, and how overwhelmed and paranoid I can get about things in general). It's sad for those who get enjoyment from holding hands, kissing, etc that they have to be cautious where/when they do it.

I have to admit that I don't like to see ANY couples 'making out' kissing and such in public, but that's just me. I wouldn't complain about it, I'd just look away.
