I love Mo. I saw him in person (and queen Jess) at the closing parade in 2012 and he seems so genuine and lovely

Believe it or not commentary and coverage is actually a big part of the ~Olympics experience~ so BBC should be providing an excellent service
Because you are failing to understand that the majority of the viewership are not athletics devotees (or devotees of most of the sports, for that matter) and the BBC have a responsibility to cater to the casual viewers who are tuning in for blue ribbon and big name events, and ones that have GB representation. Your average viewer has no interest in watching a pole vault qualification for example (even with a GB competitor), and won't be wanting to sit up past midnight being forced to view it when there's other more interesting things they'd rather be seeing. They've not spent a week teasing Super Saturday (as pointless as you may think it was) to not then devote a load of airtime to it, the Olympics is an investment and it needs to pay off ratings wise

Like, not all of the swimming heats have been shown in their entirety on the main channels and I understand that. There's plenty of other sports and stories that take priority, which is why the online streams and red button are there to be used. It's disappointing that they're taking the OBS commentary on a lot of them (and I find it baffling they're doing it for athletics but didn't for swimming) but as I said to you the other day you can blame the government for the scaling back of the red button and forced budget cuts which'll have led to this

The BBC is one of this country's greatest institutions for a number of reasons and its sports coverage is largely unrivalled. The problem is that the more it gets cut, the lower the quality, and the criticism that certain sections of the press constantly throw at it (along with viewers) only tempts the government to cut it back more. It's a cyclical thing

Look, I can understand how if you're a fanatic of a sport it must be annoying to not be able to see everything you want, but the option is there and you're just choosing to put yourself out? What's more important, commentary or watching events you've waited months for? A few of the feeds don't even have commentary and that's really annoying but I'm not gonna switch the sport off because of it lol

But it's not really an opinion, more a misunderstanding of how TV works

Expecting them to show every session of athletics in its entirety on BBC1 when there's 27 other sports at an Olympics is just delusional

You're going out of your way to miss events you apparently want to watch so badly, that makes no sense?

I feel SO bad for Jess & Greg for having so much pressure placed on them by the BBC to win golds like in 2012 and Kat too was being hyped up by them to win something. Now some people will see their results as failures and that's not very fair imo

^^^ Lord this is the Olympics fgs not Big Brother, why are you turning everything into a debate? Just let people watch it how they want to watch it? And complain if they want to complain

Please direct me to where I said I wanted BBC to show all the Athletics on BBC1? Nope, never said it, that's not possible, it's the bloody Olympics ffs of course they need to show other sports too, so not really sure how me "complaining about lack of field coverage" is a 'misunderstanding of TV'. No need to call me delusional either thanks If you payed attention to my posts you'd actually see that I complain about the "talking heads" as such, spending 10-15 minutes talking about stuff rather than showing the field action, putting endless VTs on when there's live action happening etc.

Me and Macie are pretty much the most dedicated fans of Athletics on this forum so excuse us if we feel like criticising our nations broadcasters for the same bull crap they give us every year.

And that's the last post I'm making in response to this so don't bother typing up anymore essays. If you don't wanna see me complaining then put me on ignore

Because err strangely enough..this is a forum? That's kinda what it's for. And just in case you've forgotten, you @'d me, if you didn't want a response you shouldn't have bothered don't incite discussions you can't finish

Your criticism is based on a misunderstanding of how basic TV works, so excuse me for rebutting your claims on a TV forum. And now you've basically put the BBC on the same pedestal as NBC which is so ludicrous I don't even know where to begin

I think I'm either gonna do that or post about athletics in the main thread, your incessant criticism of something you're not even being forced to watch and pretending you care about certain events when you clearly don't is dragging this thread down, so you're right, it's probably best I avoid it

So do I, especially on Kat's part as well because they hype her up every year when her time is yet to come, she's no Gold-worthy yet but they make out like she is

You've complained in this thread that they've not or won't be showing field qualification events and that's tantamount to wanting them to show the session in its entirety on BBC1

Talking heads exist for the benefit of casual viewers, to provide insight into and explanations of sports that for most people they either won't follow outside of an Olympics or certainly not as much as a diehard fan. They're obviously not for your benefit because as I said earlier, you probably know what you're talking about more than they do the main channels have to appease viewers who are tuning in for big stories and big events, not minor ones that most people don't care about - that is after all the mission statement of the BBC: inform, educate and entertain

As a side note: you started talking down to me first, not the other way round

What's the better feud tho, Novo and Hayden on athletics predictions, or me and him on the quality of the BBC?
