I agree- they don't look like fake tears to me, and she seems in a genuine state of distress at the constant picking and goading. I don't know anything of her back story but if it's one of domestic abuse, then I can see why their behaviour would be affecting her so badly- she has actually hinted at this several times, particularly when she became angry with Aubrey in the bedroom as she was trying to explain her feelings.

I think that suggesting the tears are fake is an easy and insensitive way to excuse the unforgivable behaviour being directed at her by Bear, and in this case Heavy too. It allows Bear fans to avoid confronting the reality that his cruel behaviour just isn't funny, but is in fact, extremely damaging to others.

No doubt Bear fans will dismiss the long term-impact of domestic abuse and suggest that background is irrelevant as Bear and Heavy are not being violent. However, anyone who knows anything about domestic abuse will know it also comes with constant put-downs and criticism to undermine the confidence of the victim, and that their behaviour will feel intimidating to her, as she will have learnt to expect something much worse to follow.

Domestic abuse is not only physical- it involves mentally and emotionally wearing down of the victim. Anyone with that background would feel extremely uncomfortable and upset with what Renee is experiencing.

Bear and Heavy might not be aware of her background, but they are able to see the distress she is feeling, and both should feel thoroughly ashamed of themselves. I am a Heavy fan, but that does not mean I will condone and excuse everything he does, and neither should Bear fans.
