Moving to Essex and giving them a happy ending would have made more sense than what happened.

Being memorable isn't a good thing if the reason why it's memorable in the first place was because it was bad.

It was random and pointless. It would be like someone leaving and having their exit cut short by having a piano fall on them because the writers didn't know how to write them out properly. It's just lazy and sensationalist rather good storytelling.
