Default Is UK alliance with USA/Trump a good thing or a bad thing?

They showed Theresa May's speech today on FOX and she seemed very charming. What do you think of her being the first foreign leader to meet Trump? An honor or just groveling?

Honestly, if we really are going Hard Brexit, it's probably one of the only lifelines we'll have, despite how much I hate Trump. I'd rather we'd just stay closer to our European allies than have to rely on the custom of one country.

Keep making ANY NEWS
threads

Even if its about the cost of a burger on LA
it matters,

I knew a Mexican Lady (July 2001)
who worked in McD at one shift
then the AM shift to that Better Burger King
she ran out of Tea bags so I said pop this Pure Kenya Tea
bag in your Hot Water
and charge as normal for Tea
she did that.

Just down from Hollywood Boulevard
past that REAL Old Hotel

She said how do I stay that Fit?
I said Super Fast Running
then a rest,
then repeat

You can meet me for the next session
at the weekend as you are not on a shift.....

Cops did not like Super Fast Running
I said that's OK to check me
I showed him my UK passport
and the address I was staying
he took notes
and he then said if we, are driving down this street
DO NOT OVER TAKE US - I said DEAL.
and shook his hand,

Make America Great Again
I love

Hitching our struggling wagon to a country that is quite blatantly in the middle of self-destructing seems like a superb idea to me. I mean, at least we're consistent in our unfathomable self harm.

Remember how brexitbuddies insisted all through Brexit that it was awesome that we were going to forge strong links with emerging economies like China, Brazil and India? And now those same brexitbuddies are trying to convince us that, contrary to that, it's actually the USA we want to cuddle up with? Any way the wind blows for some, I guess.

You think that a Trump-fronted US is going to allow us to be in bed with China and the US at the same time? Nonsense. This is the "have our cake and eat it too" attitude I'm frequently seeing from Brexitbuddies. It's not going to work like that.

We've been allies of the US for many years and it doesn't seem a huge stretch that one of our strongest allies is one of the first places we turn when looking for new trade deals.

Theresa May is doing her job. Her job is have a working relationship with the president of the USA, regardless of what anyone thinks of him. Corbin would do well to note that if he has aspirations to ever win an election.

It's grim. Being George Bush's sidekicks when we didn't need to be was embarrassing enough, it's going to be unbearable to have to be Trump's bitches because we have no other options... But yay! Voting to leave the EU with no plan in place from the Leave campaign was obviously the smart thing to do!

Preach it Hugh;

The US will never see the UK as anything but it's "51st state", it's sidekick li'l bitch. May weasling up beside Trump is utterly pathetic, and the very people who talk about the UK being subservient to the EU seem to be all for it . Not happy to play underdog to the EU but perfectly happy to get on all fours and display our pink little rump to Daddy Trump. Why? Do you think Britain is strong and can stand alone or not?? Decide! PLEASE.

Standing alone doesn't mean cutting all ties with your allies(including the countries of the EU).Trade has to be done and deals have to be done.
The EU is also going to have to work with Trump aswell. All countries who want to trade with the US are.We may not like him but he does look much more favourably on the UK than Obama did.If he's offering us a good deal and telling us that we're at the front of the queue we would be fools not to take advantage of the situation.
I'm sure Theresa May isn't fond of him either but she seems to be acting professionally and getting on with the job. She's been to other countries aswell as America. It's only going to put us in a stronger position during Brexit negotiations.
We don't have to be Trumps bitch to do a trade deal with the US.Theresa seems like a strong leader so far and i can't see her getting pushed around by Trump or getting dragged into anything she doesn't think is in our best interests.

So you think standing alone means not having relationships with any other nations? What a weird perspective you have TS.

Please don't post things about little pink rumps, I now have a mental image of Nicola Sturgeon I never wanted to see.

If you knew a crazy person with a nuclear bomb, would you be nice to him or call him a twat?...

That said I don't trust this govt, I wouldn't trust them with my dog let alone a country.

Of course we need to have trade deals... I just find it fascinating that people who are so terrified of "EU overlords" are perfectly happy to see their precious Bwitain sold off piece by piece to US based privatisation.

Pretty much, it highlights the fact that Brexit wasn't so much about escaping EU's 'Tyranny' as Leave voters would have us believe as it was about that other major issue that defined the referendum....
