They are just replacing a more unpleasant looking fence that presently sits around the Eiffel Tower.

Yes it is and presently its chain link fencing which looks horrible. If they are going to surround it with glass, they may as well make it bullet proof. The problem I see is, its going to get defaced with graffiti pretty quickly.
