That jumped out at me as well, why on earth did she report the car missing and fail to mention that her son was in the back seat?? Their response would have been much more urgent... they'll be getting dozens of stolen car reports and it'll just go on the list. A missing child is much higher priority. I guess maybe she panicked about people thinking she was neglectful? It still doesn't make much sense.
