No, it is not that simple, he was persuaded by whoever radicalised him that when he set off his device he would immediately be received into paradise with 72 virgins for dying a martyrs death in holy Jihad against the infidels.

Under certain variants of Islam, with Islamic State and the Taliban, music is considered Haram (Forbidden), so also is educating girls. They should not even be taught how to read. There job is to cook and clean and be Jihadi brides to have sex with their husbands and bear sons (Not Daughters!!)

Also America is seen in some Islamic extremist circles as the Great Satan, so a pop concert with a representative of the Great Satan, who is clearly literate (Haram for a female), involved in Satanic and Haram music, not wearing a full burka and face veil inciting other women who should be at home serving their fathers and husband, in silent reverence would be so repugnant to those who are radicalised that they would consider it a great honour and sacred duty to sacrifice their lives bringing it to an end. And as mentioned above, Allah will smile on them for their efforts and welcome them into paradise et al.

He did not want fame per say, he wanted to die serving Allah in holy Jihad.

The real villains are those who radicalised him into such beliefs , which many mainstream moderate Muslims will also see are a perversion of Islam, and sent him out to die, or at least encouraged him to do so
