I've noticed Tom coming out with these 'things'. He thinks he's being intelligent but he's too dumb to realize he's failing badly.
He probably doesn't get much practice back home.
You have to play down your intelligence in a lot of company round these parts (Wales) to avoid being accused of 'showing off'.
