They have to have at least one novelty act or it's not X factor! But I'd rather the genuine, light-hearted variety than the manufactured, cynical variety that had plagued it for the last few years.
The novelty acts aren't the problem though, it's the fact that what they consider to be "amazing" is just people with a great voice who can belt a power ballad... but there are so many people with "that" generic voice. They need to start looking for acts with real individuality and uniqueness. Fact is... the vast majority of the world's current big pop stars would get nowhere on shows like this. Look at someone like Ed Sheeran. Not that he's my cup of tea... but he's instantly recognizable, both by brand and by voice, and sells millions of records. He'd get nowhere on The X Factor. Whereas someone who can blandly belt out "Hallelujah" and hit all the high notes has them jizzing all over their judges seats but lasts less than a year before going onto the scrap pile of X Factor winners.
