Also from reading DS apparently all's Channel 5 ever wanted was the nightly CBB highlights shows along with evictions and a final. Endemol insisted they had a companion show and civilian Big Brother as well. This explains literally everything lmao.

It's interesting though because I feel like C5 used to put effort into BB, like BB12/13/14 clearly had a lot of effort put into them imo so I wonder what happened around 2014 which is when they seemed to start preferring CBB.

Yep, Germany only has CBB on the air. They also don't have a live feed anymore either.

Being a German, I can only tell that we don't have a proper BB anymore. Currently, the fifth series of CBB is airing - but in fact, it is a poor rip-off of "I'm a celebrity...". It only airs two weeks a year and the whole format is a disaster. They tried to reboot the civilian version in 2015 on another channel, after it had been axed in 2011. But it only lasted one series.

I much prefer the British version (civilian and celebrity) which I've been watching since 2011 now.

Ben Frow has been the only one to listen to fans especially during bb14 which is Channel 5's most successful civilian series. He would respond to bb viewers emails but I'm guessing he's sick and tired of the constant hassle from bb fans he doesn't run the show this is why channel 4 ditched it due to people constantly complaining.

The series needs rested badly. Channel 5 have run it into the mud with 2 celeb editions and BB a year, it's overload. A 4-5 year break would be good and bring back the normal housemates or reboot with the american format.

I've been saying this for years and was basically accused of being a liar on one occasion, they only ever wanted CBB and Endemol told them it was a package deal. Whether that still stands remains to be seen

They preferred CBB right from the start, why do you think they launched the revivial (in the summer!) with Celebrity Big Brother? And then gave us a summer CBB forevermore?

Let it have a rest, and then fingers crossed it will be revived on C4.

I'm not saying the show hasn't had its good moments on C5, but that's always came as a result of the housemates themselves. C5 have made a mess of the show from the very beginning in terms of its production. CBB has improved, but only because of its casting choices, and the fact that they have two per year really allows their **** to stick occasionally.

Not to blame Channel 5 entirely. A lot of the terrible production ideas came from BB11, but they took them to a terrible extreme.

When the contract is up for renewal it will go to the channel that bids the most dosh for it. Its not an automatic thing. If C4 wanted it, they could have bid at the time of the last renewal. They didn't. Once you get channels below C5 in the running to host it, you may as well throw it away anyway as C5 is basically pond life.
