Default Worshippers angry after police enter mosque with shoes on

http://metro.co.uk/2017/09/19/muslim...shoes-6938130/

This story was in a Google news feed and I thought it was interesting. Should the police have to abide by religious custom while carrying out their duty and were they being insensitive, or should the police always be exempt from rules and customs while in uniform and working?

Personally I don't think the police can be expected to stop and take their shoes off while working with the public as that would make them vulnerable but I'm sure others have an opinion on this.

Thoughts?

I agree with this

In general if it was a simple matter of inconvenience I'd say they should try to be respectful of other people's property and follow their rules if they want to enter, unless they have a warrant to enter uninvited.

Removing shoes is sort of a different case, though, as hypothetically, they could be looking for someone, who might then leg it out the back door as soon as their shoes are off, limiting their ability to pursue.

If a warrant is in place then tbh it's tough **** and they can pretty much do what they want.

I'd say the best compromise if they're there looking to talk to someone would be to ask them to come outside instead.

No they shouldn't remove them as a religious observance as such, that said due to the style of prayer maybe it would be to minimise the risk of contamination from outside?
Maybe some dust covers?

You can hear in the vid swearing, that surely is also prohibited in an area so sacrosanct?
It shouldn't prohibit an individual being arrested wherever they happen to be.
That said an individual has the right to ask why they are being arrested and not simply be carted off, that is an infringement of civil liberty.

no

Just as a Star wars fan cannot force a policeman to wear a Darth Vader Mask if he searches their home with a warrant. If you wish to believe in bronze age superstition great, just dont expect anyone else to.

I agree. The law and security trump religious rights at all times. Seriously, if the police are searching out a terrorist for example they are supposed to run around in their socks. This country, or rather some of the people in it, are losing their marbles in their attempts to appease certain religions.

I'd imagine it would be some sort of Health and Safety breach anyway.

Thing is, at the point the police entered the building it became a crime scene, not a place of worship. If the police were called to a church they wouldn't be expected to put a fiver in the collection plate on their way past

good analogy

that the police turned up is a minor miracle, never mind taking off their shoes

They should try being angry at those who necessitated the police.

just shows what morons they are.

If they aren't there to worship they shouldn't really be expected to take their shoes off should they?
