v underrated franchise, I know Andromeda was buggy and 3 had some "choice" storylines but still an entertaining game.

Playing ME1 again, I can see the issues with ME:A more clearly, a lot of the characters in ME:A feel a lot more shallow, and it felt like the crew of the Tempest always believed in everything Ryder said. Shepard had it harder, they had to talk Wrex down from shooting them, they were snubbed by a lot of their original crew in ME2, for working for Cerberus. Also, it seems there was no real way to make Ryder a 'renegade' type character, they were too goody goody.

I hope for ME5, they head back to the Milky Way, the setup for Andromeda could have been interesting, but honestly, I'm not too bothered about finding out about the Kett ect.

Indeed... Ryder is a Mary Sue, ReneShep was a no-nonsense badass. In fact my main complaint about ME3 wasn't the endings; it was that they made my Shepard softer and more emo even picking every renegade choice. ME2 Shepard was brutal... it was a perfection of the choice system IMO. Usually the problem in RPG's with these systems is that if you play an "evil" character, it sort of fudges the plot because you're fighting against other evil characters an inevitably being a hero, when it feels like your character should be siding with the enemy . ME 1 and 2 got it perfect; renegade Shepard was at the core a "good character", who wanted to save lives and make a difference, but was stoic and ruthless in getting it done when compared to the Paragon counterpart. In ME3 it was like... you could make renegade dialogue choices, but in cutscenes Shep acted Paragon, and it was obvious that Paragon was the "canon" story.

I suppose the story has to be tailored to that though. In ME1 you're a whatever-it-takes Spectre agent, in ME2 you're treading the line with Cerberus and the whole thing is morally ambiguous. In ME3 you're pretty much in full on "save the galaxy" mode so that changes the options. Same with Andromeda... given the reasons and motivations for their mission, there's not much scope for being anything other than Paragon.

I have heard them insisting that the IP isn't dead, but I can see there being a longer wait and an entire new studio, hence the shut-down and disperse of staff. I wouldn't be surprised if the next installment is a reboot or semi-reboot.
