It's also called comedy. By a comedian. On a stage at a comedy gig. It's not real, and the humour is in the shock factor of the joke, not the target itself.

But hey, I always suspected the double standards on here were real

The 'PC gone mad' crowd have absolutely no issues with potentially radically insensitive costumes, it's just 'a bit of fun' after all and people need to 'lighten up', but a comedian making jokes on a comedy stage? Morals! Vile! Lock 'em up! Ban it!

You don't get to decide what comedy is, Chuff. Humour is subjective, there are people in this thread who don't find Peter Kay funny, you and others do - we are all unique and have different interests, such is the beauty of life.

Frankie Boyle is a professional comedian. People pay money to see him do a comedy gig, where he tells jokes, like a comedian does. As with all dark humour, the comedy is in the 'I can't believe they just said that' shock factor of the joke - rather than the target itself. Also, a lot of Frankie's comedy has satirical and political undertones to it, if you aren't going to bother watching him you wouldn't understand that.

Finally, I'm not going to be lectured about morals by someone who continually mocks people based on their appearance, and for experiencing bereavement. Mine are in a much better state than yours I can assure you. And as for disabled people, I'm pretty sure you recently made a comment that a disabled participant on Strictly Come Dancing was only progressing on the 'pity vote', so

No I dont, but I know the difference between right and wrong and to take the piss out of a severely disabled child is NOT and never should be called comedy ,if you have to sink to these levels you shouldn't be walking the earth ,saying someone is after the pity vote and saying a disabled childs Mam had to marry a cage fighter to stop the child raping his Mam is totally different

In December 2010, both Katie Price and Peter Andre were said to have been left "absolutely disgusted and sickened" by a joke in the 7 December 2010 broadcast about Price's disabled son, Harvey (then 8 years old). On the show, Boyle said: "Apparently Jordan [Katie Price] and Peter Andre are fightin' each other over custody of Harvey - well eventually one of them'll lose and have to keep him. I have a theory that Jordan married a cage fighter cause she needed someone strong enough to stop Harvey from ****in' her." [17]

In a response, Katie Price said: "Harvey Price is a little miracle. Every day he overcomes so many difficulties with the help of family and medical experts and has so many tiny battles to win due to his medical problems and autism. I love him and am deeply proud to be his mother. If Mr Boyle had a tenth of his courage and decency he would know that to suggest, let alone think funny, that Harvey may sexually attack me is vile and deeply unfair. Mr Boyle clearly has serious issues and those that give him a TV platform to say such disgusting things need to look at themselves very honestly."[18] Peter Andre's representative also responded to the comments made by Boyle and said "We're all disgusted by these comments. Peter is angry and very upset at Harvey being mocked in this way. Children, especially a disabled youngster, should be off-limits." Both have confirmed that they are seeking legal action and have written a complaint to Channel 4 regarding Boyle's jokes with Katie saying "To bully this unbelievably brave child is despicable; to broadcast it is to show a complete and utter lack of judgement. I have asked my lawyers to write to Channel 4."[19][20] The charity Mencap described Boyle's joke as a "disgusting" attack on a disabled child.[21]

In April 2011 Ofcom upheld 500 complaints about the incident and censured Boyle and Channel 4 for broadcasting the jokes, which had been personally cleared by Channel 4's Chief Executive David Abraham, ruling that the material appeared to directly target and mock the mental and physical disabilities of a known eight-year-old child who had not himself chosen to be in the public eye. "As such, Ofcom found that the comments had considerable potential to be highly offensive to the audience."[22][23]

Racism[edit]
In a later episode, Boyle was criticised by some media outlets for using racially offensive terms. A character played by Boyle used the term '*****' during a joke criticising prioritisation of British and western war casualties over others in UK news media.[24][25]

In July 2011, the Daily Mirror published an article which strongly criticised Boyle, describing him as a 'racist comedian'. In response, he sued the Mirror for libel, and was awarded more than Ł54,000 damages after a High Court jury found he had been libelled. He donated the money to charity.[26]

If you know the difference between right and wrong, why do continually mock people for the way they look, make nasty comments about bereaved people you've never met and disparaging ones about the parental qualities of people on television shows, or express borderline or outright racist, homophobic and transphobic views? That doesn't make sense.

Again, I'll explain in simple terms - the humour of dark comedy comes not in the 'HAHA he insulted that disabled kid', it's in the shock factor of 'I can't believe he just said that'. Hence why most laughs at one of his (or other comedians of his ilk) gigs are preceded by 'oooohs'. Also, the joke in question was not actually about Harvey, but about Katie Price parading her children around in the public eye. He's explained this on several occasions.

The difference between you and I Chuff is that in the ~real world~ I don't make or agree with genuinely disparaging and nasty comments that have malicious intentions towards real people. Jokes are just that - jokes. They are not serious comments, the people making them or laughing at them aren't being serious, they are flippant and nothing else. Faux outrage over a comedian making jokes but having no issue with racially insensitive remarks makes no sense. Your priorities and morals are completely misplaced.

Finally, you've said in this thread you like Chubby Brown, a comedian whose material is largely rooted in racial material. Now I have no issue with this, a joke is a joke, but you can't be outraged over one topic and not the other. What is it, homophobia, racism and transphobia are fine but leave the poor disabled alone? Ridiculous and patronising.

Isn't the difference here that Chuff comments on people who put themselves in the public eye do they must expect some negative as well as positives, their kids are off limits as they don't have a choice?
