With these people you can only acquiesce. Standing up to them is a big mistake, as they can take you down, without blinking and make an example of you. An unpleasant truth to those who always insist "You should stand up to bullies" - It is not always possible, and they do win.

Putin, with his KGB training and contacts and access to nuclear weapons is one such person. The trouble is, it seems political suicide to acknowledge that unpleasant truth.

Yeah, let's all roll over and let Putin take what he wants. Let him have Ukraine, then Finland, Moldova and Sweden....then he can take on the rest of the world and be the supreme leader. Blah blah blah.

Yes he's ex KGB....and? Yes, he has nukes....but guess what, so do the US, France, us etc etc.

You think Putin will stop at Ukraine? Ha.

This is worrying .....

----------------------------------

Downing Street says claims aired on Russian state TV that Prime Minister Boris Johnson threatened to carry out a unilateral nuclear strike against Russia are untrue.

The baseless claim was made on 60 Minutes, a chat show on the state-run Rossiya 1 TV channel last Friday.

Presenter Olga Skabeyeva said over video of the UK prime minister's visit to India: “Yesterday, this clown [Boris Johnson] threatened to carry out a nuclear strike against Russia, if needed, without consulting Nato.”

A statement from the No 10 press office said that “these claims are completely untrue and yet another example of disinformation peddled by the Kremlin”.

“The UK government is entirely united with its Nato allies in supporting Ukraine against Russia’s illegal invasion,” the statement concluded.

Apart from Skabeyeva, the quote has been circulated by Dmitry Rogozin, head of Russia’s Roscosmos space agency, who tweeted a similar statement to his 800,000 followers the previous day; as well as TV presenter Vladimir Solovyov, who also posted it on Telegram to his more than one million followers.

The accusation has also gathered pace on pro-Kremlin social media channels and news websites, with one version featuring an apocalyptic view of London in flames, being viewed nearly half a million times.

In some cases, the claim comes with a counter-claim from several popular Russian Telegram channels that it was “fake news” planted by Ukraine to discredit Russia.

However, the earliest mentions of the so-called British nuclear threat that the BBC was able to find were carried on pro-Russian social media channels.

[Any country trying to intervene in
the Ukraine war will face a "lightning-fast" response,
Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned.

"We have all the tools no-one can boast of... we will use them if
necessary", he said, in what is seen as a reference
to ballistic missiles and nuclear arms.

Ukraine's allies have stepped up the supply
of weapons, with the USA vowing to make
sure Ukraine defeats Russia.
Western officials say Russia is being hampered
in its efforts in the east.

Last week, Russia launched a major offensive
to seize the Donbas region after withdrawing
from areas around the capital Kyiv.
But according to one official, Russian forces
are "finding it difficult to overcome the
staunch Ukrainian resistance and they
are suffering losses".

In another development,
the European Commission has accused Russia
of blackmail after Moscow cut off gas exports
to Poland and Bulgaria.
The Commission's President,
Ursula von der Leyen said it
showed Russia's "unreliability" as a supplier.

The Kremlin said Russia had been forced
into the action by the "unfriendly steps"
of Western nations.

Gazprom's cut-off follows Poland and Bulgaria's
refusal to pay for gas in Russian roubles - a demand made
by President Vladimir Putin in March,
which was designed to shore up the
faltering currency battered by Western sanctions.]

Latest signs are not good for the future of this war I fear

- Russia making steady progress in the East
- Attacks taking place in Transnistria possibly dragging Moldova into the war
- Truss saying Russia should be driven out of all Ukraine (Crimea is never returning to Ukraine let's face it)
- Ukraine carrying out attacks on Russia's territory with the West's backing
- No real sign of any peace talks in the last few weeks
- Increasing talk about nuclear weapons

I can't criticise Ukraine for anything they've done in this war but Russia's failure to take Kyiv has led a lot of people to think they can be totally humiliated and defeated now across the whole country which is not realistic

i agree, the wests failure to recognise we are already in a war could cost us dearly. We joined the war the moment we supplied arms to ukraine and sanctioned russia. We should all be on a war footing now. Its a matter of time in my opinion until russia nukes someone and the way it shaping up we are going to be the first target.

This is all a bit of a contradiction though, if it's "only a matter of time until Russia nukes the UK" then we do not "need to be on a war footing" - because the game is over. We don't "need" to do anything.

i disagree, we can get our missile defence systems at full readiness. We can shore up our defences, get people ready for war, because contrary to popular belief, not everyone will die
