The cheeky gay friends
Chris Steed and Stephen Webb from Brighton Both hairdressers, Chris, 37, and 42-year-old Stephen are the show's most outrageous commentators. Bitchy, outspoken and often side-splittingly uproarious, they say what others might be thinking but wouldn't dare say aloud, such as Chris's remark that Channel 4's medical expert Dr Christian Jessen would look better with a paper bag over his head!
Chris says he's watched a lot of programmes he'd never have dreamed of viewing before Gogglebox. His favourite was a documentary about defunct superstore Woolworths. 'That was absolutely hilarious. Who in their right mind would tune in to watch it?'

But the show's had another, deeper impact on their lives since producers spotted Chris working at Toni & Guy. When they first appeared they were a couple, but they've since broken up – and both blame the Gogglebox effect. 'When you're having to watch lots of TV together it highlights some of the things you don't like about each other,' says Chris.
'I know a lot of people say Stephen picks on me, and he does. When you're in a relationship, it's difficult when someone is constantly taking the mickey out of you, because you're supposed to love that person. That put a strain on things. Now we're just friends, it doesn't matter so much: we haven't got that romantic connection. It probably did us a favour. I love Stephen to bits but he's hard work!' Stephen agrees.
'Gogglebox did definitely play a part in it because, when I watched it back, I realised that sometimes I'm quite harsh on Chris. When it's a bit too cutting he can't really handle it – and I just felt a bit of a bully. I didn't like how that made me feel, so I ended it. But we're still friends.' But he can't resist another jab at his ex-lover though. 'I like watching Question Time, but it all goes over Chris's head.' Stephen's family warmed to the show from the start. They share the same mannerisms and he's often told 'you looked like your nan when you said that, or you sounded like your uncle. It's almost like they're seeing themselves on TV.'

I liked them, tonight the dad came across awfully though, he can have his opinion on gay marriage, just didn't agree.

Crazy that the ones who came out of that segment the best was the older generation (Leon and June) and Rev. Kate, was really lovely to hear them both speak so positively and passionately.
