I know he didn’t save anyone in that sense but his logic behind his reason wasn’t to be fair, he didn’t want to choose any of his friends but he was trying not to look like the bad guy so he tried to play it off as being “logical and fair” instead of just saying he didn’t want to pick any of his friends.
