Hero
My hero is the person who refused to confrom to the norm; All the people who suffered verbal attacks, From those ignorant to the facts, And who didn't change their views, When opposed with violence and abuse. The women who challenged soceity, And the gender heirarchy, Who faught against the stereotype, That said they could only amount to being, "A successful housewife". The Hindu man who fasted for peace, So that violence and war could cease, And so his country could be recognised, As independent and free worldwide. The Jewish girl who wrote a diary, About racism and tyranny, Whose words would single handedly, Defeat future dictators candidly. The Afro-American woman who sat her gorund, So that this new era was found, Where a black president, Can be accepted without hesitance. The Sikh man with a turban, American and suburban, Who walked around with his head held high, Even though 9/11 suddenly made him "the devil of the sky." All these people continue to live and be, Regardless of society so blindly sees, Knowing and not knowing that one day, People will hear their stories and say, "That's my hero." The person who refused to conform to the norm.
