Ken's suicide was taken as an admission of guilt by the remaining nine inmates, and 2 of them - Hugh and Richard - had the misfortune of actually seeing it happening. Hugh even maintained that Ken kept eye contact with him as he did it.

The next day, the 8 of them were rejoined by a healed Stefanie. The nurse had left the night before prior to the stabbing, and so they were alone. They decided it was time to move the two most recent bodies to a part of the prison that would at least keep the smell at bay. They would have to wait for outside help: they couldn't access the control tower and its phones or computers without Livia's passcode. Surely the local government would notice a prison operating without any interference?

For now, though, they had to access the food storage and find something to sustain them. Mariya had pointed out that it was kept in a padlocked room near the ruins of the kitchen & dining hall, and so they set about trying to find something heavy enough to bash it, or the door, down. Chenzira had tried numerous times to just do it with the force of his own body but just ended up more and more injured himself.
"I think we should just split up and scour the place ourselves," ventured Arnaud, whose friendship with Ken had made him even more alienated by the group.
"Fine," Stefanie shrugged. "You and Demetri go to the ruined kitchen. I'll go to the cell block with Julianne; Hugh and Richard go to the library, Luiz and Mariya to the utility room and...uh... Chenzira to the bathrooms."

Not entirely sure who made her leader, they set off anyway.

Chenzira heard something - running water? - coming from the showers. It didn't sound like that, though, more like a hissing, but more high-pitched than anything like gas or steam. He decided to investigate, and since it was only around 4pm he felt a little gung-ho rather than fearful.

Over in the utility rooms, Luiz had found a fire extinguisher that he thought could be quite useful - along with a picture of Dave Benson Phillips that he couldn't wait to share with the group - and left without telling Mariya. She stayed rummaging for anything bulky but just kept finding thin planks of wood and pretty useless nuts and bolts.

Whilst in the cells, Julianne was rummaging through Hugh's personal belongings.
"What are you doing?" Stefanie peered her head through the door.
"Just... snooping." She threw a photo on the bed.
"You like him, don't you?" Stefanie teased, picking up a small stone statue of Jesus. "This won't do."
"Oh yeah, love Australians who kill 40 children, how did you know what turns me on?"
"I'm not judging. We've all got our kinks. Just seen the way you act around him."
The two ladies continued their gossip whilst the narrator moved on because he's not entirely sure any of this matters to the story.

Over in the ruins of the kitchen, Demetri was taking care not to walk under any dodgy beams and staying away from the most badly smoke-damaged areas. He walked around feeling sorry for himself as he tried to find anything metal and large to salvage, as he thought of his wife. He glanced upon a saucepan and could practically feel its imprint on his cheek that sent him into a rage one night. He'd never touched alcohol since - not that he had much opportunity in prison, although a few of the shadier characters in his old institute managed to smuggle in flasks from their loved ones.

Arnaud noticed that, as usual, Demetri was off on a journey in his head and so let him be. He decided to look in the dining area down the corridor, and paused for a while wondering if one of the chairs would be any good. Deciding the answer was no, he turned around and straight into a hand holding a cloth over his mouth. He felt a sudden, sharp, searing pain in his gut and the sensation of the knife being pulled out and punched back in 4 times. The last time, it was twisted and he tried desperately to cry out in agony but was just muffled. The killer took a step back once he stopped struggling, and left him to bleed out on the floor. The knife was thrown casually to the side - there was no one around to investigate now.

Some time later, Chenzira was speaking to a vision of Michaela. At least, he was in his head. A few moments into his conversation, Mariya entered and told him she couldn't find anything. She noticed him talking to himself as she used the toilet, but felt it unnecessary to raise this with him. They went to the library together.
