Police in north-west England broke up two wedding receptions on Sunday for breaching coronavirus restrictions.

Officers in Blackburn found more than 100 guests attending one reception, while in Greater Manchester a fixed penalty notice was issued to the organiser of a wedding with more than 50 guests and a marquee.

Both areas are subject to local restrictions to prevent people socialising with other households. Elsewhere across England, sit-down wedding receptions of up to 30 people are allowed.

The wedding in Whalley Range, Manchester, was one of 54 reported coronavirus breaches between 15:00 BST and 23:00 on Sunday in Greater Manchester, police said.

Deputy chief constable of Greater Manchester Police Ian Pilling said most people were "doing the right thing" so it was "incredibly disappointing that these people are being continuously let down by a small majority, who are selfishly flouting the very guidance that is there to keep us safe".

I'd guess really much worse to come too, once the furlough scheme is stopped.

Certainly no good news here in those figures with no good news to come in the future, short to medium term too.

As well as continuing rising losses of lives, lives too shattered by long term and permanent organ damage, even brain damage, from this virus.
Millions left grieving and heartbroken too.

For likely over a million or even millions to come, also their security, employment and livelihoods destroyed following this virus too.

I'd love to look for optimism and positives but frankly those things I've listed, leave me only seeing the devastation left behind daily by this virus.

With only still more negative uncertainty to come in the short to medium term future at least too.

There were worse breaches than that too.

Andy Burnham has said though that some restrictions may be lifted in some of the borough's this week too as the rate has come down in all but Oldham area. This may change after the weekends shenanigans though

...so many losses in so many different ways, Joey...it’s often being reported how cancer diagnosis has had delays for many through these overstretched medical resource, times...and the focus of research into COVID vaccines/medication is taking away from much needed cancer possible new medication...just so many impacts for a very long time...

It's a disaster but the decision is made at board level in each healthcare trust. My sources (OK... my wife's sources... my sources by proxy) inform me that exactly the same thing was occurring in many (very possibly the majority) of English trusts - so prepare for this breaking as a nation-wide story at some point.

I'd honestly not even heard of PHE before all this would it be a great loss if they were replaced?

PHE was created in 2013 - as part of an overhaul of the NHS in England under former health secretary Jeremy Hunt - with responsibilities including preparing and responding to health-related emergencies such as pandemics.

The ultimate head of PHE is and always has been the Health Secretary so disbanding PHE without also lobbing ol' Hatt Mancock to the back benches and replacing with someone new is hilarious hypocrisy. Not unexpected of course - not ever, really, but cetainly not after the Cummings fiasco.

It could be argued that both haven't been up to scratch tbh

the u turn makes sense. The results weren't going to accurately reflect ability anyway, so at least make it something that satisfies the consensus
