Having hosted the contest six times, Dublin holds the record for having hosted the contest most often. It is followed by London and Luxembourg (each hosted 4 contests.

I think this is why we send people who wont get anywhere near winning

Sugar had the same formula as ours (rely on the horns) but at least had the merit of a bright, dazzling performance by someone who was easy on the eye. I didn't really care for the Moldova entry at all but it beating us was a no-brainer.

Our song was really outdated and we sent someone who couldn’t dance. I’m not bothered about coming last because I just find it iconic we became the first country to get 0 from jury and votes if that doesn’t get UK to send something good then we may as well give up

I stopped watching Eurovision yearsss ago , but I heard about the UK getting ZERO . I actually thought we'd atleast get 2 or 3 points , I thought only Gemini would go down in history with NIL Points wow .

Was the UK entry this year that bad ?, not that it matters as it's all political . And Brexit hasn't helped matters.

There is a political element, however, in this case it's not even unjustified. It was literally the worst song AND performance of the entire show .

The winners were dire too though - Aldi's own brand Red Hot Chilli Peppers with a bit of Led Zep thrown in. I can't get over Graham calling it "heavy metal" . He also called Finland "heavy metal" when it was straight down the line Linkin Park style pop-metal, right down to the vocal effects, with Nightwish low-tuned guitars (because Finland, obviously).

Both bad. I wish we could have some actually good alternative stuff.

Personally I was rooting for France, I thought it was the best and most genuine performance of the night. Though I had a soft spot for that amazing Swiss dancing .

I don’t watch Eurovision but it feels like it’s been the same story for Ireland and the UK for years, it feel like maybe neither RTE nor the BBC want the hefty costs or work involved associated with hosting it

You're right, he couldn't dance and he wasn't a great singer. But I can't understand how we got 0 points and that ridiculous euro-pop nonsense from Germany scored points!

Ironic how, while we were watching the UK crash and burn in Eurovision, Glastonbury was going on, with the music that the whole world listens to.

I was thrilled for Vanessa when Italy won x

I can only imagine a couple of jury members were literal children and found his suffocating optimism charming :/

Then again our own jury members are questionable... Tom Aspaul (popstar with like 34 fans) put Moldova 2nd in his list can't we find someone with actual credentials to judge them?

I think it's actually part of the reason the UK never sends good acts. You can "make it" as a global musician from a start in the UK and Eurovision is seen as somewhat less serious/a bit embarrassing... thus, our actual talent doesn't really want to be involved. For other European countries it can offer a platform to the world for talent, so actual talent wants on the show.

The UK should have either sent someone rock-ish, or gone all out with the cheesey naffness we associate with Eurovision.

a big zero across the board usually indicates that something isn't quite right. Usually, somewhere in there, a country takes pity and awards the most dire song 12 points. There was none of that this year which I found hilarious.

I don't think the uk organisers have a clue, because we have a huge talent pool and yet we always end up with complete ****e

Can we appreciate Babs from France changing into a hoodie and jogging bottoms for the results?

well we likely can expect Andorra to return next year (since they already had a verbal agreement to return in 2022, they didn't want to return this year due to covid and extra time to work the entry, but they already have the funds)

The UK need to do what Andrew Lloyd Webber/Jade Ewen did that year and actually dedicate time and spend months before the contest physically going around Europe (as many countries as possible) promoting themselves and the song - interviews, talk shows, live gigs, televised performances, newspapers/magazines etc all abroad.

We can't just carry on "okay here's our mediocre song that even the UK doesn't really like" and be shocked when nobody bothers voting for it.

Eurovision promotion should begin like January - secure the act, promote said act with random material, release the Eurovision song, promote said song.

By the time the contest comes around - "Europe" will be familiar with our act enough to care to vote.

extra esc quizzes, more best of esc song cover shows

re-ignite interest in the show, but more for family entertainment, time to not take competition part serious, but be like Portugal too, use the contest as a platform to give new talent and some ''has been'' artists a extra boost, some chance at performing for wider audience
