I don't know how many times I'm going to have to defend this, but the "Most Memorable" thread I made was 1) a feel good thread that, like it or not, spawned a series of other feel good/forum-wide participation threads. 2) a nice gesture & 3) in no way a popularity contest, because it was entirely written by me with no input from other people.
Anyway, Lewis made a very good point earlier in the thread about longevity. The longer you've been on the forum, the more scope there is for people to have opinions of you; so perceived popularity or hatred is only magnified over time. I don't really see the forum as being a popularity contest; I just think, as always, there is a contingent of people who need to be reassured. I don't think that's a bad thing. I think you have to be insecure or disillusioned with life in some way to find yourself as a regular poster on a website; perhaps it was a one off period in your life, perhaps it's all the time, but I don't think that's important and I certainly don't think anyone's in a position to judge someone else for being "sad", we're all as sad as each other! |

I really agree with this. It infuriates me when people go around telling others to 'get a life' because they appear to use the internet too much. Like, who cares? What's it to them? As I said earlier, some people use forums and the like for escapism from real life problems, others use it because they have nothing better to do, and others just enjoy the internet a lot. You can't define 'having a life' anyway because life is perceived differently by everyone and everyone enjoys doing different things and everyone has different problems. I just think it's ignorant and childish to say to someone that they're 'sad' or they 'need to get a life' because they use the internet a lot.

On topic about people being different online to real life, its true, I'm more nicer in real life, then i am online. and in real life i don't really swear much, but online i do.

Amazing, are you kidding - she was practically bald by the time she left the house! She just had extensions - hardly any hair of her own - that's what happens when people bleach their hair too much - it looked awful!

Yeah. i know her hair was like, short and stringy lmfao, but she was pretty - with or without hair extensions, even when she had no make-up on, in the morning when she just got out of bed natural beauty.

I am not even going to read through 16 pages of what's probably going to be arguements. I'll just say I don't think it's a popularity contest... make the forum your own, by that I mean it's your experience so make of it as you will.
