I guess I don't need to but removing them both just frees up so much money that there's an extra change I'd rather make now than delay to next week, hopeful it can make up for the additional -4

Maybe.

But technically if you deduct -8 from his current score of 15, you only get 7 points of him. 8-9, if he gets any bonus points.
