People do care. The interviews are often considered a rite of passage, both for voter and politician, when it comes to our major elections. It's how most of us become acquainted and when we often become most comfortable casting a vote for any particular candidate... your comments only apply to folk who are already energized enough about the candidate to show up to rallies. That's very few voters and not enough to win an election. With the size of the US, or even just the nature of life, we can't simply stop what we're doing and very easily meet a politician. Social media can't ever replace the connection that many of us have become accustomed to "being spoken to" on TV. It's a major memory for me, each Presidency, that we "got to know" that candidate for the first time warming up to them in an interview. When anything major happens, say 9/11, the first thing we expect right out the gate is to hear the President's address. We get so much comfort from listening to them speak when times are tough. So if she can't speak directly to the people smoothly, that's a big problem, because that's a vast majority of the association to our President, is in how we are spoken to (Note: "to the people", not "at" the people). It's very important that she can separate that distinction to keep the temperature of the country. So, I think in getting the interview right she can easily win support with undecideds who may look at her speak and go "Ok, I think *I'm* comfortable with this person running things...".

It's a much bigger deal than not. Like way beyond what you can imagine. People here associate their politics very strongly with our media connection to our leaders because it's the closest we can get with a country of this size and having this much cultural diversity.

Trump is already ahead of her in interviews and that's a problem too because any sort of "misgivings" people may have had with him, they've had more opportunities to hear him speak and to come to their own conclusions. His newer interviews have come out softer than in the past so he's presenting really well, for Trump (so far).

what a great post Maru, and though I have very little interest in American politics its the one thing that has transferred across to our elections here in the UK, TV debates and interviews with the potential leaders, I can see how it would be more important in the US given it has been a long standing tradition, , its good to get an American living in America take on things
