Same as if one of the housemates came out with something, say, they were diabetic...lots of people would sympathise, saying they are also and know how it feels.
Also, panic attacks are a lot more common than people believe. Many of my friends suffer from them...in varying degrees of intensity.

Until you've had them you haven't got a clue , that's why people are arguing. The first one can come out of the blue later on in life. I wouldn't wish them on anybody but I'm certain some of the people joking about them here will get one sooner or later. They're just part of life...

The reason most are arguing is because they havent had them, and are using textbook examples of panic attack to judge. some people are also arguing because what they saw on screen did not match their own symptoms. I have never suffered a panic attack, but my partner does frequently, and they are not always the same, sometimes they are very mild, other times he thinks he is dying.
