It gets annoying all these people who slate this site all the time but continue to post hear,I just don't get it,it's your choice to be hear or not.
As for compensation you should be the 1 whose paying all us compensation for having to listen to your BS.

[rquote=2498916&tid=144284&author=Gavin]Tell me the last time another major website got hacked?

I can't think of it![/rquote]

That's because you seem pretty uninformed about the whole thing. Some of the worlds largest sites have been, and will continued to be attacked. Twitter, Reddit, PirateBay are 3 off the top of my head that had the same thing done to them, and they are mutli-million dollar businesses with a dedicated team of security experts working full time (and with Reddit they didn't even encrypt their passwords), and if I searched I'm sure I could list many more.

The security things is a 2 way thing. Yes our security failed, but we put the site in immediate lockdown which was the best thing we could have done. We didn't bring the site back until we were confident it would be OK. Your side is making sure YOUR passwords are secure, hard to guess and not the same on multiple sites. You complain that people could get into your bank and it costs you money, but if you are banking online with passwords that are generic, and the same on all websites, then the blame is almost as much on you as it us.

Here's an article on how to chose a good password. http://www.google.com/support/blogge...n&answer=41970

MD5 encryption of passwords is quite secure Gavin, however if someone has hacked the site and got all user names, their email addresses and their encrypted passwords, it will will take them a while to decrypt your password.

If you use the same password on multiple sites, you are asking for trouble.

Incidentally what are you so worried about them hacking into your email server for, you got emails on there from sites that a good christain(who is full of tolerance and forgiveness) shouldnt have? Mucky site memberships etc?

Before you start gobbing off, I think you should in fact thank Mark for some sage advic about your own online security as opposed to whining. Just remeber this regardless whats ecurity measures are put in force someone is capable of hacking it. An example of this would be people hacking Norad Defence Computer systems etc.

So do us all a favour if you have nothing constructive to add to the situation, keep your unwise whitterings to yourself.

[rquote=2498831&tid=144284&author=Gavin]I can not believe this atrocious mess has occured over the last 24 hours.

It is completely unforgivable that this website did not have the necessary measures and security software in place to prevent such an attack.

The owner of this website is totally accountable for this huge error of judgement, and is totally unacceptable. This is a large forum with thousands of members, how could you not put the appropriate measures in place?!

If my email account and other accounts are now hacked due to TiBB's absymal security, how can I receive compensation from the owner? This absymal hack can potentially cost me thousands of Ł.

This is totally unacceptable and you should be embarrased by your lack of judgement to not have the latest security in place. You have caused so much trouble for thousands of people on here and hassle.

Please answer my question: How do I receive compensation from the owner if need be?[/rquote] borringg

Oh incidentally gavin in answer to your question about who do you see for compensation. I dont think compensation is available for being stupid. however you could try speaking to the clerk of your local civil court.

This will have a three fold effect:

One. Give the staff at the clerks office the chance to meet you and realise even some computer users can be total dicks.

Two. Get you offline for a couple of hours and give us a break from you of the same duration.

Three. Have everyone on the forum ptsl at you as you complain on here how the clerk eventually threw you out of the office after first bursting out laughing at you, then explaining the situation to you, then asking you to leave without registering your complaint after you refused to listen to him as he explained your password is your responsibility, keep it secure and only use it on one site.

You have a duty to care for your own security. Of course, a clever person like you will have unique high quality passwords for each of your ap p lications, so don't worry your pretty little head.

Apparently this site wasn't up to date with the latest security software because of the type of forum software that they were using.

So it was easy to hack.

The hackers that did it, said it was bound to happen anyway because of that.

Forums get hacked all the time.

I've been a member on 3 boards that were hacked so far.

If you even go on that hacking site, they have several threads on forums, university sites etc. that they have hacked with in this month alone.

TiBB isn't a commercial site and only makes 1p a year, so unless you're willing to fund any extra security you'll just have to make do with what is here. You should change your passwords all the time anyway, and Facebook, the internets most popular website, gets hacked all the time.
