In a few episodes they make little hints about him being gay.

Example in one episode they want to watch TV in the bar but the guy says no and Cartman says 'Butters will give hand jobs in the corner for a dollar!'

And then when Butters goes missing in one episode, the news reporter says 'The Boy missing is Butters Scotch, or as some refer to him as That Little Gay Kid'
lol
