Have C4 verified yet whether the 1000 free passes will be issued on Tuesday without people providing credit cards, or is it a case they get people to pay up and then refund (or don't charge) the first 1000.

Channel 4's a big site, not like TiBB. Would it really crash if there's a surge of say 5-10,000 people going onto it at around the same time? I don't think so. It might lag, but I doubt it will crash.

Depends how many go for it though. Remember though in the good old days when you could guarantee that the live launch show would immediately be followed by the website crashing.

Endemol has done Internet Feed before
some problems can happen
but in General it is Bliss
to have Live Feed.
