Get a grip
He doesn't have issues with the British. He has issues with the British who still think they own us. That is a perfectly fair viewpoint to hold.

I think you will find that it is you who is overreacting to everything, considering that's two Irish people in 24 hours who have merely enforced their independence, and you took it as being anti-British.

So yeah. It's you.

I'd be pissed as well, it was like when I went to Mexico they kept reffering to us as English, I'm not *****ing English.

see this is why history - world history and geography - should be made compulsory in schools! Then the daft Australian wouldn't make the mistake, would he!

What the **** LOL I saw it too and to say she 'got really offended' is a bit of an over statement. She simply said that she would get angry if someone called her British, which is perfectly understandable considering the history. Not to mention, would you not be a bit offended if some said that you were say, Icelandic?

I was born in Glasgow but raised in London. I'm British; people in N-Ireland aren't even British but they're considered part of GB.

I think it's offensive how people in the RoI aren't allowed to vote in some of our competitions. Like this one for example. Caoimhe is from The Rep' yet her peeps wont be able to vote for her to win or w/e if she makes it that far, which IMHO takes the p***!

Aye. We used to be able to. And they still hold open auditions here. It's Big Brother for the geographical region of the British Isles, but we are left a bit in the dark.

We're not able to vote in American competitions because we're a different country. The Republic if Ireland is a different country so they can't vote in our competitions. It makes perfect sense to me. It's not discrimination.

I haven't seen said incident but without getting into politics or history, I think it depends on how she said it. I'd be fairly taken aback by someone being angry/aggresive with somebody they had just met regardless of what they had said.. Especially in an environment like the BB house
Scots and Irish get asked stupid questions like that so often.. When a foreigner asks me whereabouts in England is Scotland, I just put him/her straight. If he/she genuinely thinks that then the only thing you can do is put them right (but also thinking "you stupid **** ) no point in getting angry about it.
John is a foreigner.. he obviously didn't say it to offend so there is no point in getting overly defensive and making yourself look like a tw@t on telly!
However, a few of you say she didn't overreact so I'll wait until I see it.. (might not even be shown though)
uh oh..I think I'm going to fall out with myself today!!

Yet they're not exempt from actually entering to BE INVOLVED? Seems a bit of a washout to me, personally.

I guess the same could be said for JJ as well though.

I should have said people in Australia won't be able to vote for John either. Imagine if people in Portugal had been able to vote for Rodrigo las year me might have won, who knows.

I'm from ROI, and I know what she meant - she's just pee'd off that people KEEP saying it to her. Lets face it, a lot of the BB wannabe's are probably a bit dumb, so she probably got asked 20 times over the past few days!
BTW, read some Irish history if you want to know why some of us get offended. NOT for the faint hearted...

Southern Ireland isn't part of Britain, I'd be quite offended by that statement too. Republic of Ireland has independance from Britain and it's not that nice when people say you're part of another country when you're not AND when the people had to work hard to get independance from that country in the past.

I have nothing wrong with Britain at all though, I have British cousins living there and I think this Ireland vs Britain rivalry is silly. But Ireland and Britain are two different countries independant from each other and that should be respected and acknowledged.

Because we fought long and hard to get our country back from Britain and we are not British. I don't see why you would have a problem with that! 800 years you know!

It's a touchy subject because we had had to fight to not be British. Can you not understand this at all????
